A few years ago, my anxiety was crippling.
Panic attacks when I tried to leave the house. Sleepless nights. A constant, whirring mind.
With help, time, love — and diving deeply into yoga — I’ve found more peace.
But some mornings, I still wake with that familiar feeling rising in my chest…
my body feels fuzzy, on edge, a sense of urgency pulsing beneath the surface.
I’ve learnt now: this is temporary.
I know how to meet it, to move through it — not spiral as I once did.
Something that’s really helped is understanding that everything is impermanent — every feeling, every breath, every wave of anxiety. Nothing stays the same.
Lately, I’ve been waking before sunrise, sitting in the quiet darkness with a candle flame for Trataka meditation — a gentle gazing practice that steadies the mind, soothes the nervous system, and draws focus inward. It’s said to cleanse the eyes, improve concentration, and bring a sense of stillness when thoughts are racing.
Afterwards, I write. Just write.
No plan — simply letting whatever’s spinning in my mind spill out onto paper. It helps to create space inside.
Then I move.
Sometimes through slow asana, sometimes shaking, dancing, running — whatever helps energy shift and release. Breathwork (pranayama) grounds me back into the present.
Standing barefoot on the earth, even in the cold, helps me feel held — supported by something steadier than my thoughts.
If anxiety sometimes comes your way, a gentle reminder that everything is impermanent — every feeling, every breath, every wave will pass.
Maybe one of these practices might help you find a little more ease too:
a few quiet breaths, gentle movement, a warm meal, a moment in nature, or simply placing a hand on your heart.
Be kind with yourself, always.
You are doing beautifully — even on the days that feel heavy. 🤍
Love, always,
