FND Peer Support

FND Peer Support Hi,
My Name is Karla. I was diagnosed with FND in December 2023, and like many of you, I am sure, it turned my life upside down in a heartbeat.

This support page has been developed to assist individuals and carers of those diagnosed with Functional Neurological Dissorder (FND), share common issues and come together to support each other. Since the beginning of symptoms to gaining an official diagnosis took approximately 6 months however, since diagnosis, it was evident that the hard work was only just beginning. I Suffer with seizures on a daily basis (anywhere up to 17 in one night), require the use of a wheel chair and i am no longer able to drive
I found that from diagnosis, there was very little support for those that are affected, especially at a local level, and wanted to firstly set up a facebook community and a physical peer support group for those diagnosed, and also for those carrying out the caring roles.

Huge thank you to everyone who attended the FND coffee morning today.
Was great to see some regular attendees and also some very welcome new faces.
It was also great to welcome BBC Look North to the group, doing a feature on the condition and the support provided by the group.
We are told that all being well, this should be shown on tonight's look north, so hopefully you can all watch and others can be made aware of our cause and increase the awareness around FND.
Once again, thank you for all your support

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that came along to our fundraising fun day at the old England, Great Lumley yesterday.
Your support in raising funds to keep the peer support coffee mornings running has been overwhelming.
From yesterday's event, we managed to raise a fantastic £759.72, which will go to support so many people affected by this horrible condition.
Once again, thank you all so much.
We hope to organise another event soon.

We are busy putting the final touches together for the family fun day this Saturday (16th August) at the Old England Pub, Great Lumley, 1pm - 5pm.
We would like to thank the many people and businesses that have so generously donated raffle and tombola prizes.
As our very first event, it has been overwhelming to see the amount of support and interest in the condition that has been generated.
We look forward to welcoming a number of small local businesses to the event that will have stalls showing off their products and giving you a chance to purchase some of their goods.
Lets all hope that this is a very successful event and that we can raise the funds so desperately needed in order to keep the Peer Support coffee mornings and Peer Support services operating.
We hope to see you all there.

🧠 Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) changes how the brain communicates with the body, and that can result in some unexpected, frustrating and often painful neurological symptoms.

They might not always be visible, but they’re very real for the person living with them. A little understanding can make a big difference. 💜

It isn't easy to find the strength to carry on every day, but find it we must.
Let's get everyone talking about FND, raise awareness, and reduce the stigma around this condition.

Reminder of the family fun day fundraiser or Saturday 16th August at the old England pub, great lumley. 1pm-5pm

Good evening all.
Due to an operation being brought forward by 5 months, I have been forced to bring the fundraising fun day forward to 16th August.
As you will see, it will still be held at the Old England, Great Lumley, between 1pm and 5pm.
We hope that you will all be able to come along and support us in raising funds towards our ongoing peer support coffee mornings.
