Eating in January… doesn’t have to be about crash diets, juicing, cutting out carbs and making extreme lifestyle changes… No no nooooo!! āŒ

I actually think the opposite! It can be varied, balanced and healthier though, for sure!

My approach to health and fitness has always been about making small, steady and consistent improvements…

WHY?

Big changes often involve changing too much at once, promising yourself you’ll have more willpower this time, and that you’ll definitely stick to the plan… but after 2 weeks, you’ve failed. Because it’s UNREALISTIC in the long term.

This post is to show that you can make small incremental changes to your diet over time; start to introduce new things, cut down on processed food, drink more water, eat one more piece of fruit daily… doesn’t matter what it is! Just make some small, positive changes! Hopefully this inspires you to do just that! šŸ‘šŸ¼

This is a simple message for women everywhere…

LIFT THE WEIGHTS. šŸ‹šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

And they don’t even need to be heavy!

I have access to various gyms and lots of equipment, but today I did a 30 min shoulder focussed workout with only a pair of 3kg dumbbells. No real reason, just because I’d reminded myself how lighter weights (+ higher reps) can still create a lovely muscle stimulus / burn!

8 x exercises. 15 - 20 reps each. 3 times. Simple! Focussed on one muscle group to create maximum impact… and I DEFINITELY felt the burn! šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

Women! Lift weights! Pleeeeeease!!! You don’t need to spend hours on the treadmill. The weights don’t need to be heavy as long as you find it challenging! Grab some light weights and try this little workout to start with & let me know how you get on! ā˜ŗļø

ā€œWhy do we do this to ourselves?!ā€ … was the question on repeat from on the start line of our 3rd Hybrid NW event; and yeah, while the adrenaline was pumping, we were questioning our life choices… but you know what. I BLOODY LOVED IT. I love the challenge, I love the rush, I love the tunes, I love the atmosphere, I love the fitness community! When we started this, I never thought I’d get so much enjoyment out of a Hybrid event like this, thought it would just be relentless, gruelling and hard AF. And it is! But it’s also brilliant at the same time! 🤯

But we’d trained hard, we felt good… 9 stations (shared), 9 runs (together) and 1 sprint finish later, we are absolutely BUZZIN with the result! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜

13th in age group (out of 40)
40th in female doubles (out of 127)

Room for improvement for sure, but also a very worthwhile achievement we’re gonna be proud of! šŸ’ŖšŸ¼šŸ’ŖšŸ¼šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

Oh yeah! Our Dry Jan group is BACK! By popular demand! šŸ¤—

Last years’ group really helped a number of us reassess our relationship with alcohol and we supported each other through the difficult times… (weekends mainly!)

On a serious note though, not drinking for a while gave us chance to pause, reflect, dial back and find alternatives… It’s always a good idea from a health perspective to knock it on the head for a bit - treat it as an experiment, see where it takes you!

If you’re sober curious, want a break for a bit, or if you just fancy a different kind of challenge this new year, message me and I’ll add you to the WA group! No pressure, just support!

We’ve got this Dry Janners! I’m ready for this. Let’s GO! šŸ’ŖšŸ¼šŸ¾šŸš«

This song came on while I was working out this morning! How bloody poignant when we are all reflecting on the year just gone and looking forward to the year ahead..?. A reminder that YOU are in control of your own life. It’s just you…! Trying to be a better you! And that’s perfectly ok…! And if you don’t like something, figure out how to change it.

This year has been epic. Feeling super lucky and super
grateful for everything. I started this year being a full time PT working in 3 different (awesome) gyms, ended the year back in full time corporate employment, still teaching 2 x classes per week and training 3 x BRILLIANT clients multiple times per week! And the balance feels perfect to be honest!

I don’t have huge goals for next year… get fitter, build more muscle, be consistent, reduce alcohol, the usual really! I’m happy - I don’t need any drastic overhauls. Life is good. Family is good, my boys are healthy and happy and thriving, so let’s just keep going, (try to) keep the stress at bay, keep training hard and lifting weights, and see what this year brings!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! šŸ„‚šŸ·šŸŽŠ

Was actually really up for that this morning! šŸ˜‚ Yep. Weird. I know.

It gets to a point where enough is enough 🐷 and I have to switch back into normal mode… not immediately... I’m not going completely cold turkey on the chocs and cheese and wine just yet, I find a phased approach works best for me…!! Starting with healthier choices for breakfast, more water, exercise and (more) fresh air.

Nothing drastic.

Food tracking will start again in the new year. It has to. Feels like I’ve been eating in a surplus for about 6 months… but you know what?! I’VE BLOODY LOVED IT! šŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸ˜‚

If you’re wanting to get into better habits in the new year, I challenge you to start today. It’s Monday. It’s still 2025, but it’s after the Christmas chaos and will set you on the right path as we move into 2026…. GO FOR IT! šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

12 days of Gym-mas - The Kaye & May Edit!

Cheeky little WOD - 10min EMOM (3 rounds)

150m erg
5 burpees
10 devil press
15 bicep curl

Then we threw in a 2k run and 100 wall balls for good measure. Nothing earth shattering, but considering we both drank wine last night, neither of us were feeling particularly up for it, and it was 9.30am on a Sunday, we bloody smashed it mate… šŸ¤£šŸ’ŖšŸ¼šŸ¤ŖšŸ˜‡
