🌙 Nightmares and Mental Health: What the Research Shows 🧠

Did you know that nightmares are often more than just "bad dreams"? Recent research shows that when nightmares are frequent or highly distressing, they play a significant role in our overall mental well-being.

Here’s a breakdown of what the science says:

📉 The Link to Depression & Anxiety
Frequent nightmares are strongly associated with higher levels of stress and poorer sleep quality. In young adults, nightmares can trigger anxiety, which often leads to depressive symptoms. Interestingly, researchers found that the distress caused by the nightmare is often a bigger predictor of mental health struggles than how often they actually happen.

Nightmares are a hallmark of PTSD, but they are also overrepresented in mood and psychotic disorders.
