How To Heal Your Gut Naturally (4 easy steps)
1. Opt for fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and limit processed foods which contain high levels of sugar
2. Take note of fatigue, bloating, anxiety, gas or any other symptoms that you might be experiencing before, during and after eating. This will allow you to start mapping patterns and become aware of what foods might be effecting your body. If you continually eat foods that don’t react well to your body, it can damage your delicate digestive lining and balance of good bacteria. Log your findings for at least 2 weeks
3. Probiotic foods contain microrganisims that improve the helpful digestive bacteria in your body and helps to restore the natural balance of bacteria in your gut. Some of my fave probiotics are: sauerkraut, live yogurt, kefir, kimchi, raw cheeses (parmesan, edam)
Prebiotic foods feed our probiotics. They are either not digested, or only partially digestible. They leave behind fiber that passes without breaking down in the stomach and go to the gut where they ferment and feed the probiotic bacteria. Fave prebiotics: leeks, yellow and white onion, asparagus, walnuts, and flaxseeds
4. Adding in foods to help thicken the gut wall to prevent tears that lead to conditions such as Leaky Gut Syndrome. Best food sources: blueberries, blackberries, figs, cranberries, dark unsweetened chocolate, avocado, brussels sprouts, radicchio, broccoli, cabbage, okra, shiitake mushrooms. All these are complex foods and protein sources that improve immunity. They are cooling, nourishing and have enzymes to help strengthen the gut wall and stop it from permeating
As always, not one method fits all but these 4 tips are going to be key in taking the first steps into healing your gut naturally 🥑
