What I do for my own gut health ———>
Sleep is SO important and mostly overlooked when it comes to your gut. How could sleep have an affect on slowing down digestion? Well it does & is one of the root causes of mood related digestion conditions
🥑 TIP: make your bedtime routine a happy and calming space. I’ve been saying this to everyone at the moment but a weighted eye mask has really improved my quality of sleep
Intuitive Eating: one of the best decisions I made, after struggling with yo-yo dieting and intense fasting & has been key in helping my gut heal
🥑TIP: I like to go with 70/30 with my nutrition and if I crave something I eat it - the worst thing you can do for your eating habits, is restrict yourself and put your body under more stress
Low Impact Workouts, are definitely not something you think that could affect your gut but it does! High intensity cardio redirects the blood flow away from our gut and to our lungs, brain and the muscles we’re using, meaning less movement is able to take place in our gut E.G slowing down digestion and increases gut inflammation
This is not to say that high-intensity workouts are always bad for you, you just need to know how to manage balancing these workouts with your gut such as incorporating low intensity/rest days
🥑TIP: Swap in a couple of days of low impact workouts to your routine (pilates, stairmaster)
Stress Management: the gut-brain axis is the communication pathway between the central nervous system and your gastrointestinal tract. Acute and chronic stress will change the balance in our gut microbiome by favouring unhelpful bacteria that our body doesn’t need, which can lead to feelings of anxiety and depression
🥑TIP: Meditation, nature walks, frequency music and EFT (emotional freedom technique) tapping, really helps me to de-stress and increases more of the serotonin in my gut
