There's been a lot of love for the Pilates ring or Magic Circle in class this week. We've been using it to deepen our connection with our breath as we focus in on the principles of Pilates. But the shape of the ring and placement of the pads also aids in alignment as well as providing a lovely model for finding a C shape through the spine. Sometimes we see this equipment as just adding extra challenge, but in fact it offers so much more. ❤️

That's not to say my hips and inner thighs aren't feeling the burn after a week of Magic Circle based classes!

That 6 weeks went fast! Our new block is starting next week with extra classes added due to high demand. We'll be focusing on the principles of Pilates for the next 6 weeks in small, focused classes, tailored to you and your body. A few spaces remain - DM me to secure your spot. ❤️

Swan dive is an amazing exercise to strengthen your back. We spend much of modern life looking at phones or screens with our shoulders rolled forwards and mid to upper spine rounded. So for many of us it can be difficult to draw the shoulders down and extend through the thoracic area, especially whilst keeping the core engaged to protect the lower spine. If when performing swan dive (at any of the various levels) you feel it pinch in the lower back, or you find your shoulders hunching, try standing against a wall with a small pilates ball or roller under the shoulder blades. Keeping the pelvis and neck neutral, exhale and open the chest, drawing the shoulders back slightly to gently release tension and strengthen.

We've been out foraging beautiful rosehips this week - the last week of September is traditionally when they were gathered. Every year we make a batch of syrup to try to boost our immune systems as we head into the colder months. They are rich in vitamin C and other health boosting compounds that are said to promote skin health, heart health and might even reduce pain from osteoarthritis. Either way, this fruity syrup is delicious drizzled over yogurt, it is full of vitamins and the walk to gather them is good for your body and mind.

Pilates is more than just a form of exercise; it’s a holistic approach to achieving strength, peace, balance and a deep connection with your own body. It is physically and mentally challenging, demanding a deep focus and precision of movement to get the most out of the practice. But done correctly it can be truly transformative - nurturing both the body and the mind. And fostering a supportive sense of community among those who practise it at any level. I am so proud of the lovely Pilates Vibes community that has developed from my classes and I hope that this can be a space for us all to share Pilates tips, celebrate successes, and promote physical and mental wellbeing.
