🏴‍☠️ Ahoy there, me hearties! 🌊

Last week at Otterbourne Grange we had a swashbuckling time celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day! Residents and staff dressed up in their best pirate gear, enjoyed plenty of themed activities, and even tucked into a hearty lunch of spaghetti and cannon meatballs.

It was a wonderful day full of fun, laughter, and a good dose of pirate spirit!

Here at Westhampnett House, we’re so fortunate to live on 3.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, with a pond, apple orchard, and plenty of green space to explore.

As the air becomes crisper, our residents are still getting outdoors for garden walks and birdwatching, wrapped in cosy scarves, or enjoying peaceful moments among the trees. Fresh air, nature, and gentle activity are wonderful for body, mind, and spirit.

As autumn paints our gardens in golden hues, we’re excited to bring produce into our meals that matches the season. Our Head Chef is preparing scrumptious home-cooked meals using locally sourced fresh produce and seasonal vegetables.

Autumn apples, root vegetables, warm soups… not only do they taste great, they provide essential vitamins and warmth as the cooler days approach. Here’s to comfort, nourishment, and vibrant autumn colours. 🥕🍂

Staying socially connected is just as important as staying physically healthy - especially as we grow older. Regular conversations, laughter, and shared activities can boost mood and reduce feelings of loneliness, support memory and cognitive health and strengthen self-esteem and sense of belonging.

At Westhampnett House, we encourage friendships through group activities, shared mealtimes, and plenty of opportunities to connect with family and loved ones. Because happiness grows when it’s shared.

Healthy habits, made simple.

Looking after our health doesn’t have to be complicated. For older adults, these small daily practices can make a big difference:

- Drink water regularly - even when you don’t feel thirsty
- Gentle movement - stretching, short walks, or chair exercises keep joints happy
- Balanced meals - a mix of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains
- Rest well - good sleep supports both body and mind

At Westhampnett House, we support our residents with tailored care, gentle activities, and encouragement to stay healthy every day. We’re always keen to hear ideas for activities for our residents to get involved with as the weather gets cooler, so please let us know in the comments what you’d suggest!

🍂 Hello September! 🍂

As the days grow shorter and the air a little cooler, it’s important to look after our health and wellbeing, especially in our later years. Autumn can be a beautiful season, but also brings a few extra challenges. Here are some simple reminders:

✅ Keep warm with light layers
✅ Eat nourishing seasonal foods (soups, root vegetables, and warm drinks are perfect!)
✅ Stay active indoors on cooler days
✅ Book in your flu jab and check any upcoming appointments

At Westhampnett House, we’re making the most of the season with cosy activities, autumn walks, and plenty of hot cups of tea! What’s your favourite way to keep off the autumn chills?
