Glorious views from our levada walk this morning. Levadas are narrow channels that carry water from the North of the island (Madeira) to the south. They serve the farmers as irrigation for their crops en route, but they have to pay for the pleasure 😔 We passed terraces full of tomatoes, onions (you could really smell these), grapes, potatoes, Courgettes and our knowledgeable guide pointed out trees of different types of bayleaf (the safe to eat versions and the poisonous types). I never knew that the humble banana takes longer to grow and mature, than a human baby. In fact, bananas are often incubated (under blue plastic) and encouraged to grow faster (9months instead of 15+ months) for export but this process sacrifices taste. Wow, just wow. Am super grateful for all the sunshine and love that goes into creating my lovely bananas 🍌 ❤ What's your fave fruit right now?
