What is Family Yoga? It is a welcoming class for children to practice yoga with their adults, (whether parent, grandparent, or other caregiver.) It is a space to explore traditional yoga postures and through playful partner work, imagination, games, story telling and props.

It's about connecting, confidence, exploring your body and ways to find calm. Rather than getting poses "right" or sitting still. All are welcome regardless of experience of yoga! I currently offer two age groups to tailor to preschool and over 4/5 years old.

How is a class structured? It is different each time but usually like this...
- welcome mindful activity
- welcome song
- warm up stretches and game
- yoga journey through story - postures, partner work, games
- breathwork
- mindfulness activity
- relaxation

Classes are often themed around the seasons or topics that capture the imagination such as Going on Safari, Enchanted Forest, or The Seaside. (Mountains are in the imagination only, we have classes at Waterloo Park 😉)

Next sessions 18th April at Waterloo Park. Booking essential, £12 per one adult one child, any extra family members £5.

Easter Holidays adventures - several birthdays, walks and exploring at Salthouse, Strumpshaw Fen, mousehold heath. Playing in the garden and trampoline, Spring cleaning and clearing out. Multiple Easter egg hunts, lots of Lego building, baking. Spring Gymnastics, Roarr, Great Yarmouth snails, library trip, cinema, painting and crafts.

Two weeks is a lovely long time to spend with my children, family and friends. I'm feeling very grateful that my business is flexible to allow me to do this. Back to usual routine this week!

Light and dark... It's easy to share the good but harder to talk about the bad. Two weeks ago I posted about how confident I was feeling, everything was amazing! But as they say, what goes up must come down. The following week my inner autumn was tough emotionally. It feels too vulnerable to talk about in much detail, but it was intense and challenging. I've been slowly emerging and starting to feel more myself, though taking much longer than usual.

I like to problem solve, analyse, so I've been reflecting on why? Why such anger when I was feeling on top of the world? My conclusion is that I ignored my own needs. I carried on like I was still in inner summer. Although I took a break from yoga teaching for a week, I was parenting all day, still doing admin every evening, and taught one hypnobirthing session. When my husband took the kids to the park, instead of resting I ploughed through my spring clean list. I wasn't feeling exhausted so I thought I didn't need to rest (big mistake!). And my running training has meant less time for my own yoga practice.

It wasn't until I stepped into Eve's class on Easter Monday that I realised this. By then I was feeling exhausted, and the time to slow down and rest was just what I needed. The intensity of my feelings over this month has also prompted me to look into further training. So there was a purpose in the pain perhaps.

Yoga isn't just for the calm and confident times. Yoga is just as relevant, if not more so, when you're feeling low.

I'm also sharing this because we don't talk enough about the shadows, especially online. It is easy to show and talk about all the good stuff, curated grids of beautiful trips and people. But we are human with human emotions. We live real lives. However you are feeling, you are welcome in my real life classes.

When we fall down we can get up again too. ❤️

PS I love this song, especially when running when I'm feeling low

A month to go til I run the 10k Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research. Although I'm used to running 2km with my kids, and 5km jog, this is a new distance for me, a new challenge. But nothing compared to the challenge of cancer. I'm inspired by someone close to me who is currently fighting cancer, and smashing it with their determination and positivity! I am fundraising, so if you can spare a few pounds to sponsor me and help me reach my target I would really appreciate it.

Here's a fun bonding activity you can do with older children or adults - holding a table top pose hold a block (a foam brick works better actually) between your heads. Can you move sideways down the mat/room?

A good one to try over the Easter weekend perhaps!

For partner poses and shares experiences like this join me for Family Yoga at Waterloo Park. This pic was taken at the February session, thank you!

Next date is Saturday 18th April, 10am for Under 5s and 11am for 4-11 year olds.

Like pruning a tree to stimulate new growth and focus resources, the brain changes in pregnancy are actually beneficial. We might have experienced or talk about "baby brain", forgetfulness and so on. This isn't imagined - a recent study found that grey matter decreases by an average of almost 5% in pregnancy, but rather than being something to worry about, it is a positive. It is a clearing out, a pruning if you like, to make space for new learning. For bonding, for skills and knowledge of caring for a baby, for alertness and much more. It is rewiring in a good way. I was interested to learn that subsequent pregnancies do this in a different way to the first. You can read more on this BBC article:
