You don't need anything fancy to promote oxytocin, the feelgood, bonding hormone that's produced by all of us but especially by mums and babies to promote their connection. Skin to skin, touch, social connection (ie talking, pulling faces, noises) all promote oxytocin, which means baby and mum feels calm, loved and secure.

Baby and postnatal yoga is excellent for this, because it's all with your baby nearby or even touching them. Massage, singing and moving baby, yes. But also the postnatal yoga over, next to or with your baby. With no other distractions you can make eye contact and deepen that bond that started before they were born. Even relaxing together is special because it's helping you both to regulate and end the class feeling calmer.

Sometimes babies aren't looking at you, and that's a sign they are feeling secure with you enough to look around and be curious! So take it as a good sign ❤️

Thank you for the photo ❤️

🍂Mother Roots Retreats are back this Autumn with another mini retreat for mums, where you can move, unwind and relax. Whether you are 6 weeks or 6 years a mother, you are welcome just as you are.

This session will flow with the season and guide you to letting go with the winds and leaves. On 8th November treat yourself to a few hours of releasing yoga, guided relaxation and plus a soothing soundbath to bring deep rest.

There will be yoga movement suitable for the postnatal body, to stretch and ease out tensions that come with new motherhood. A chance to feel good and to listen to your body. I am excited to bring in some of the womb honouring practises from my recent training too. Then we ease into an opportunity to rest in more restorative poses and a lovely long guided relaxation and sound bath. A few hours with no other demands and to feel safe and at ease. No experience of yoga is needed, just the willingness to prioritise yourself for one morning.

I'm pleased to welcome Mel to hold the soundbath, who is experienced with working with new mums. This is going to be magical!

We will also enjoy tea and snacks during the session (I'm thinking of some seasonal recipes!)

All held in the Sandys-Winsch room above the Feed cafe at Waterloo Park. A beautiful light space overlooking the park, where you can enjoy a walk before/after and add on a stop at the cafe if you choose to.

Booking on my website now for £29 and any questions please ask.

Mumas, never feel bad for telling me you're tired. I spent years feeling utterly tired and obsessed with sleep, yet guilty and boring for again responding "tired" when someone asked how I was. All I wanted was someone to listen without judgement of my babies sleep or anything else for that matter.

You can come to my classes as you are, and be totally honest. It's fine if you're tired, it's fine if you're feeling fabulous!

In baby and postnatal yoga and the Adventurous class we always finish with a relaxation, like this one here. If you need to lay down earlier that's fine too. Sometimes breath and movement is helpful. Sometimes we literally just need to be still. It's not going to magically solve that months or years of sleep debt, but it may help in that moment.

If you want a longer, deeper rest, my Mother Roots retreats are back on 8th November and I'd love to help you relax there with a longer yoga nidra and sound bath.

Last Sunday was filled with laughter as we completed the second half of "The Birthing Toolkit" - preparing couples for labour and birth of their baby. This photo isn't from that evening but captures the vibe well (thank you and )

I'm passionate about what I do, whilst having fun along the way. Empowering birthing couples to have a positive experience through knowledge and practical tools is something I love to teach, but doesn't have to be boring. In fact, encouraging laughter, which produces feelgood hormones such as dopamine and endorphins, is actually a great pain management tool in labour! One of the things we do is some "silly" walks and absolutely fine if it makes you giggle.

I also weave birthy knowledge into my pregnancy yoga classes, and teach bespoke birth preparation sessions with my background as a teacher and my own experiences of birth. Get in touch if you like more info or to book a session.

An autumnal evening of yoga and soothing soundbath with .with.amber and .collinssound .

As we move into Autumn, the darker evenings call you to rest. Start with an hour's yoga practice honouring the elements within us and around us, using movement, breath and sense awareness. This will lead to drawing inwards as the season calls us, in relaxed postures, eventually into meditation and a beautiful sound scape with Sally.

Old Catton village hall had wonderful acoustics for the sound bath. If you've never experienced one before then this is your sign to give it a go!

When you don't listen to the need to rest there's nothing that shouts "STOP" like a blow to the head, literally.

Sounds a bit dramatic, this happened today. I woke up with a cold. Thought "I'll be okay plough on" with teaching three yoga classes, as I felt alright albeit tired and foggy. But something had other ideas, as when I arrived at the first class I was rushing to get sorted and promptly pulled the car boot onto my head. I thought I'd be okay, but it was a bit of a dent and I blanked out briefly, so the lovely hotel staff called 999. I had to lay down for a bit but eventually recovered, after a few false attempts to get up. I felt a bit silly but all the best to get checked out. The paramedics arrived, checked me then sent me home to rest. Which I've been doing this afternoon and I feel fragile but I'm okay.

Thank you for all the kind messages after I shared this on stories. I thought I'd better give a bit more detail hence sharing here.

I'm also sharing this for the reminder that we do need to rest. Sometimes those signals from our body or our intuition tell us to stop, and we don't listen until it's too late. So... stop, at least slow down. I thought I was better at resting these days, but realise that's mostly during my period, and clearly not during illness (though don't recall when I last had a cold, usually my immune system does a swift job).

Thank you for understanding about classes and to the staff at Holiday Inn and Youfit Norwich North for looking after me. I'm incredibly grateful to the East of England Ambulance team who were brilliant. And grateful for your well wishes! I'm sure a couple more days of taking it slow I'll be back to teaching on Monday.

Teamwork makes the dream work ✨

Learning collaboration, trust, connection with siblings and older family members. "Partner boat" just doesn't work if one person doesn't pull their weight. Yes "boat" or Navasana, works well individually, but this variation is a great way to share the load, and one of my faves in Family Yoga.

With a little guidance, look how it also encourages and supports the legs to straighten - which individually we might fall backwards.

Part of our July Family Yoga at Waterloo Park. I'd love you to join us for our next session at Waterloo Park on 25th October which is inspired by Halloween 👻

Thank for permission to use these photos.

Pigeon pose over baby - mums get a good stretch and babies get lots of attention ❤️.
(Take it gently if you've had a C section or perineal tear.)

It's been lovely to get back to regular Baby and Postnatal Yoga classes in September after the break in August. Lots of benefits for mums and babies beyond the physical stretches (though those are good too!) I can see the babies settling into the routine and mum's making friends already.

You're welcome to join us midterm in September/October, or take a look at next term November/December.
❤️Mondays in Spixworth
❤️Tuesdays at The Yoga Tree
❤️Thursdays in Hellesdon
