Did you know that at a home birth you get the same level of support from professionals that you do at a birthing unit. The difference is that it is in the comfort of your own home, surrounded by your family and things that make you feel safe. You can hire birthing pools or opt for a land birth. When I talk to women the biggest thing that puts them off is the mess, but in an undisturbed physiological birth there is considerably less bleeding. Plus the midwives and your doula will manage the clean up whilst you are resting in bed with your new babies/baby. Yes, twin home birth is also completely possible. See

With maternal mental health awareness week last week and mental health awareness week this week I'm excited to see so much discourse around a topic very close to my heart.

As I mentioned last week I have been working on a very important new project in the background and am happy to announce that my free mini guide to overcoming difficult emotions is now ready to download.

It seems pretty fitting to welcome international nurse's day while working a night shift on an acute psychiatric ward. I came to doulaing through a series of career decisions from being a medic in the territorial army, doing my mental health nursing degree with a plan to commission into the regs but ending up not joining at all. I worked in crisis teams and primary care before finding my way to perinatal mental health where I finally felt that I'd found what I wanted to do. After 15 years in the NHS I'm now self employed but do the odd shift to keep up my pin.
I was reminded last night just how tough front line nursing is and what a difficult and often bizarre work environment ward nurses walk into every shift.

I'm so grateful my nursing career led me to where I am today, doing a job completely driven by my passion for it and my genuine love of supporting women through matrescence. Inspired to start my business by a lady I supported in my NHS job telling me I'd make a great Doula and me getting that lightbulb moment.

Today I'm sending love to all my nursing friends and colleagues but also to every patient I've met and supported, you've all shaped me.

Celebrate a nurse you know, or who has supported you in the comments.
