Taking a little turn away from fast, algorithm-driven feeds and toward slower, deeper thinking.

Leaving Instagram & Facebook to write and reflect on Substack - trading endless scroll for long-form ideas, curiosity, and a bit more intention.

My plan - delete apps by the end of Jan. If that sits OK with me, I'll be deleting Insta and FB completely by the summer.

A beautiful start to the weekend in the winter sunshine this morning.

Made even more awesome by bumping into Amanda, a client I coached a few years ago.

Some clients are just so coachable - really ready for change and eager to adapt their habits to improve their health and wellbeing. Amanda is one of those people.

Today, she told me that last year she had an injury, which set her back and she'd returned to a few old habits.

But, what's different now is she has the tools and a tonne of self belief. Over Christmas she returned to her notes from our sessions, reminded herself of her WHY, and began again. Her son also helps as an accountability buddy.

And here she is, at parkrun on a Saturday morning - feeling great, motivated and buzzing a little extra knowing she relapsed and independently returned to action!

Coaching is designed to boost knowledge, skills and confidence. Not to prevent hiccups, relapses or challenges. But leave clients feeling equipped to handle them and continue with their healthy habits.

In Amanda's case, it's safe to say she's smashing it! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Starting 2026 as I mean to go on..

I often question the point when the prep, the drive there and back and the warming back up afterwards take considerably longer than the activity itself. But every time am reminded that the lake people are my people, and that's the point.

✔️ fresh air
✔️ epic shared experience
✔️ forging and deepening social bonds
✔️ movement
✔️ proof of human resilience
✔️ witnessing kind folk supporting others to make memories, try hard things and warm up!

All because, 3 years ago, out of character, I said 'Yes!' to an invitation to go open water swimming. Despite my fear of fish and weeds. I'm really glad I had that mental blip and have stuck with it 😊

1st January and I'm reassessing my relationship with social media.

I have literally never found a client directly through social media. That's not why I'm on here. I'm not at all interested in the hard sell. In fact, I'd rather we all had free access to health coaching. It's a major value of mine, so charging for what I like to give for free gives me the ick.

I share because I actually love everything health and wellbeing related - namely the stuff we can all be doing for ourselves, everyday. And helping to make what seem like big problems, small and manageable.

And I'd like to continue, but I also don't really know who reads this stuff as there's so much out there from others with more skills producing content than I have the interest to learn.

If you do read, and you'd like me to keep sharing, what do you enjoy about what I already post? What topics do you need more or less of? What are your challenges?

Alternatively, and I'm fine with this outcome too, I might retire my page rather than whisper into the abyss of algorithms 🤯

You algorithm is about to be flooded with wild wellness claims and 'new year, new rules' energy 😅

Before you take any of it on, here are a few reminders to help you sort what’s helpful from what’s just noise:

• Progress over perfection — small steps are key
• You don’t have to start in January (or on a Monday) - the aim is to still be doing whatever you're changing this time next year, and the years after!
• Consistency beats going all-in and burning out
• The right support at the right time can be a game-changer (support could be anything: joining a group, asking a friend, seeking professional services, a journal)
• Health has no place for guilt, shame, or judgment - if it feels bad, it's not likely to last - you deserve health to feel joyful!
• Curate your algorithm to work for you, make you feel good, inspire and support you - ditch everything else

Your health isn’t a trend, a challenge, or a deadline. It’s personal, flexible, and allowed to evolve.
Choose what supports you — and feel free to ignore the rest.
