A friend has shared this and it made me think how I have learnt this as a trainer, but rarely is self care first aid taught - especially when it comes to heart attacks!

When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then?

A really good post that can't be shared often enough:

1. Take a 2 minute break and read this: Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.

2. You are really tired and frustrated. All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.

3. Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it...

4. Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.

5. How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.

6. But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.

7. Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs 🫁 and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment.

8. Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.ā˜šŸ»

9. FOR WOMEN šŸ‘: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.
Instead of posting jokes, you're helping save lives by spreading this message. šŸ’ž

Hi all,

I know it has been a age since I last posted here… in all honesty things have been a whirlwind and I lost my path for a while. But I am refocusing on the things I love and have come full circle back to where I am happiest - complementary and alternative therapies and art!

My other little side business, Creative Sparks Workshop is slowly growing and so I thought I would begin looking at how I can do something here Lahara Holistics and with Lahara Art & Gifts that will make me happy and benefit others...

Where to begin… any suggestions?

Lockdown, festive over indulgence and being in the middle of winter can leave us all feeling flat - and this is why researchers have declared today Blue Monday - as it is the point in the year where mental well-being is at its lowest!

So what can you do about it?

1. Talk about it! Easier said than done but that is the first step and I for one am here to listen and support.

2. Make herbal, nutritional or holistic changes - but consult with your GP, if on other medications.

ST JOHNS WORT

Often known as the sunshine herb, St John’s wort is the number one herbal remedy used to treat depression and anxiety. Its secret ingredient is a chemical known as hypericin, which helps to boost levels of serotonin, the body’s natural feel-good chemical. But please be cautious if considering using it as it can interact with other medication.

RHODIOLA ROSEA

The adaptogenic herb Rhodiola rosea helps balance mood, increases energy and can help beat sleepless nights.

LEMON BALM

Lemon balm is a gentle herb which has uplifting properties and is especially delicious as a tea.

VITAMIN D

Most of us don’t get enough vitamin D (produced by the sun’s action on the skin) in the winter months when the sun is too low in the sky to have any effect. Low levels have been linked to depression so it is worth taking a supplement between now and spring.

TURMERIC

You’ll know from my other posts I consider this to be an amazing tool in my herbal kit. Sometimes called nature’s inflammatory, turmeric is another herb to consider. The reason? Recent research has linked depression with inflammation suggesting that anti–inflammatories may be the way forward when it comes to treating low mood.

TRY THESE OTHER WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR MOOD

Keep in touch with family and friends - ok it’s tricky to see them face to face at the moment but FaceTime, zoom, Skype, email, text, good old fashioned phone call!

Having people around us distracts us from dark thoughts and makes us feel supported.

Talk about it

Find someone you trust who you can talk to about how you are feeling. If you don’t feel you can approach family and friends, its vital you talk to your GP. Remember my messenger is always open!

Keep active

Exercise releases endorphins in the brain – our natural feel-good chemicals.

Watch the booze

Tempting as it may be to pour yourself a drink to numb the emotions, remember alcohol is a depressant and can be habit forming.

Eat healthily

A well-balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg is best. Include lots of oily fish – the omega-3 it contains is a natural anti-depressant.

Most importantly know that there is ALWAYS someone to turn too and try to remember this is a dip you will eventually get out of... easy to say, but I know from experience that no matter how difficult it is supporting yourself through you WILL make it through.

Hi
It’s been awhile! Life has been spiriting me along in a different direction but I put the breaks on it in the last few weeks, when I felt changes were needed (thank goodness I have as a fibro flare is currently happening).
Anyway, through my personal social media over my morning coffee I came across this poem (shared in a different format) crediting and felt the words resonate with where I am at right now.
Becky’s words are beautiful, they speak to my soul and are ones I am going to spend the day meditating on, but have already made an impact - since they have brought me back here to post and consider things.

Just stopping in to say hello. Things have been on the back burner for a while but I do have plans to fully launch LaharaHolistic in the new year.

So my question is if I set up a survey to find out what you would like the services to offer would you be happy to be added to a mailing list to help my research into this and into pricing?

If yes please pop your name below.

A little about me....

I trained as a Complementary Therapist at Anglia Ruskin University in 2007 and the dream of Lahara Holistics began.

For the past 13 years, I have worked in healthcare and education, initially specialising in children’s health and development and recently branching into geriatric health and wellbeing.

I’ve continued CPD in health and wellbeing over the years, qualifying as a Art Therapy Life Coach and Counsellor in 2019 and utilising this via Creative Spark Workshops.

Last year with COVID-19 requiring me to shield, I was presented with an opportunity to undertake training as an Advanced Master Herbalist, Level 2 Nutritionalist and Yoga Teacher for children and adults (with a special interest in accessible yoga) and now the dream of Lahara Holistics is slowly become a possible reality.

If this is you too then I can help!

I’m offering consultations right now via teams or WhatsApp for Ā£10, as I know a few people who are suffering and are in need of guidance.

Despite restrictions lifting I currently will remain doing virtual consultations due to the complex health of those I work with in my day job.

I’m checking in as it’s been a while - how can I support you?

With restrictions easing, anxiety is heighting and for some mental, emotional and physical health will be taking a hit - so I’m focusing on mine and I want to help you and your children with yours - so I can start doing this by offering a very discounted consultation at Ā£5.

The consultation will involve a questionnaire and then a video call.

With recommendations of what you can take and do… then if you want follow up support, supplements supplied (from sources I personally use) and/or well-being activity sessions via zoom.
Then these will be charged additionally at an introductory price of £10 a session and the cost of the supplements.

10/06/2021

Would you donate £5 for a consultation?

I am looking to offer a special deal to build my base up.
