I HAD to share this! 💚
This is one of our Muddings' earth day project, we made these on Earth Day, and everyone took them home to water and grow. 🌎
They've truly taken care of theirs, and it looks brilliant! 👏

Next week, we study butterflies and their life cycles using wax resist techniques. See you in the trees! 🌳🦋

Today on Beltane, we found a deceased crowe.
It was laying at the base of a tree and was actually rather beautiful to behold.
The children and I had a meaningful discussion about how this may have happened and why.
We spoke about our feelings and how it was ok to feel sad for the crowe.
I asked the children what they would like to do about it, and they promptly set about making a shallow "grave" together and collecting flowers to cover the crowe in.
We thanked the crowe for letting us see it's beautiful feathers and wished it luck as it rest.

We talked about the circle of life and decomposition, too, and the children were very respectful and kind to the crowe and one another.

Can we talk about how proud I am of our regular Muddings attendees?
To everyone who attends forest school on a weekly basis, thank you!
It gives me the opportunity as a practitioner to get to know your child, their interests, and how I can expand their learning. Regular attendance means that your child truly receives the benefits of forest school, and it goes from explorative play to a true, meaningful forest school experience.
This can be from babies to teens even (you can not out grow forest school, it grows with you).
Children here are able to think of an idea and bring it to life, use tools independently and safely, stand up and explain their ideas to others, and even instruct me on how to help them.
Here we see 2 children who have attended our sessions weekly. They know where the tools are, how to hold them correctly, how to use them safely, and how to put them back where they were.
We made bug hotel this week, and I can't wait for the next step when we fill it with natural materials.

We have worked really hard as a group to plant the seeds of this sweetpea teepee, wait patiently, plan where to build it, dig it into the ground and plant the plants 🪴
We are now looking after them and hoping we can sit underneath the flowers looking smug soon!! 🌸🌷🌼

Have you ever stepped into a place so full of magic that your body instantly calms, your mind quiets and your smiles spread from ear to ear?
Where little giggles and tiny hands create wonderous things, surrounded by ancient trees and watchful eyes of the tiny creatures who call it home.

This is 💚✨️🌎

Look as this beautiful map our treenippers and forest school participants created, using nature and mixed media. 😍

We spotted and herron and a rabbit too!

Today, we made dye from Alder cones and used it to decorate eggs!
This was lots of fun and taught the children to be patient and certainly practise their gentle hands in order to empty the eggs 🥚🐣
Did you know the alder ink is regularly used to create ink?
Such a cool bit of nature and science right there, in the woodland 🙌🥚

Amazing Mesolithic 2 days with Crofton junior school.
Becoming a nomadic tribe is not easy! Lots of racing hearts, new experiences and cave paintings . Creating pre-historic paint from ground up charcoal/sandstone and wild garlic mixed with animal fat (coconut oil 😉) from a beautiful deer, expertly and humanely hunted in the name of survival 🙏

Perhaps if we understood the hardship of trapping and slaughtering our own food to facilitate our existence it might make us think about how we consume meat 🤔

Thanks for being awesome
