Free Drop-In Support Sessions for Families
Durham SENDIASS are pleased to share details of free drop-in support sessions taking place across County Durham for families with neurodiverse children and young people.
These welcoming sessions are open to all families — no diagnosis is needed. They provide an opportunity to drop in, ask questions, and get information in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Families attending can:
• 💬 Chat informally with professionals, charities, and local
support groups
• 📚 Access advice on education, health, care, and emotional
wellbeing
• 🤝 Meet and connect with other families who may be sharing
similar experiences
The sessions are designed to be inclusive, friendly, and accessible, offering practical support while also helping families feel less alone.
Whether you’re at the very start of your journey or already supporting a neurodiverse child, these drop-ins provide a valuable chance to gather information, build connections, and feel supported.
📍 Find your nearest drop-in session:

Ever wondered what a First Contact Physio (FCP) does? 🤔

A First Contact Physiotherapist is a highly trained specialist who you can see directly—without needing to visit a GP first—for muscle, joint, or bone problems.

They can:
✔ Assess and diagnose musculoskeletal issues
✔ Provide expert advice and treatment plans
✔ Refer for scans or to specialist services if needed
✔ Help you manage pain and improve movement
✔ Support recovery from injury and prevent future problems
✔ Provide advice on work and activity, including issuing fit notes (sick notes) where appropriate

Our GP staff can book you directly in with an FCP—just get in touch with reception 📞

FCPs are based in GP practices and are often the best first step if you’re dealing with back pain, sports injuries, arthritis, or other physical concerns.

Skip the wait and get straight to the right care 💪

For patients who do not meet the First Contact Physio criteria can self refer using to Musculo Skeletal Service (MSK) using the link below:-

If you feel that you are suffering from a musculoskeletal complaint that could benefit from Physiotherapy, you can make a direct referral to the County Durham Integrated MSK Service (CD IMS). This offers patients greater choice and faster access to hospital services without the need to visit a GP.

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month 💙
Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers, but it’s also one of the most treatable when caught early. This month is about raising awareness, encouraging open conversations, and reminding everyone to listen to their bodies.
Know the symptoms:
Persistent changes in bowel habits
Blood in your stool
Unexplained weight loss
Ongoing fatigue or abdominal pain
Don’t ignore the signs. If something doesn’t feel right, speak to a doctor.
Screening saves lives. Early detection can make all the difference.

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of bowel cancer and funds to support our work.
