Do you ever feel that some things were just meant to be?
That certain beginnings are so powerful, they echo through generations?
That’s how I feel about Slimming World.
Our story… your story… it all began long before any of us walked into a group for the first time.
✨ From one small hall… to millions of hearts changed forever. ✨
In 1969, Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE opened a little group in a church hall in Alfreton, Derbyshire. It was nothing grand just four walls, a few chairs, and one woman with a vision built from her own battles, her own hope, her own belief that nobody should ever feel alone in their journey to change their life.
What she created wasn’t a weight-loss club.
It was a sanctuary.
A place where people felt seen, supported, believed in often for the first time in a long time.
And somehow, from that tiny hall, a spark spread.
One person supporting another.
One story inspiring the next.
One act of kindness becoming the reason someone finally believed in themselves again.
Look at us now.
From that single hall, Slimming World has grown into a family that reaches hundreds of thousands of lives and every single one of those lives matters. Every triumph, every wobble, every brave step through a group door… it all counts.
Margaret believed that weight loss should lift you up, not hold you back. She believed in compassion, in courage, in community and she trusted us to carry that flame forward.
And that’s exactly what we do.
Every leaflet we hand out, every poster we hang, every chat, every weigh-in, every moment we sit with someone who’s struggling that’s her mission flowing through us.
💬 “She touched the hearts and changed the lives of millions of people.”
But here’s the part that always gets me…
We’re not just remembering Margaret’s legacy we’re living it.
Every time we welcome someone new, we’re giving them what she once gave to that very first member in 1969: hope.
Hope that this time can be different.
Hope that they aren’t alone.
Hope that their life can change in ways they never thought possible.
And together truly together we get to help people rediscover themselves.
We get to celebrate them, lift them, love them through the hard days, and cheer for them louder than they’ve ever been cheered for before.
So here’s to us to our hearts, our courage, our belief in what’s possible.
Here’s to Margaret’s vision, still alive in every step we take.
And here’s to the lives we’ve yet to change.
Let’s keep going.
Let’s keep believing.
Let’s keep transforming lives side by side, heart to heart. 💖
