Did you know you can book a package offering antenatal and postnatal feeding support in advance?

Even if you’re only just into your second trimester, it might be useful to think about feeding.

The ideal time for antenatal contact is between 28-32wks - see other posts on my grid explaining what we cover.

I’m able to offer continuity to you - to understand where you’ve been and where you want to go, building plans to help you reach your goals and support you if those change.

Until 13th Feb you can book this package at 2022 prices - even if it’ll be a few months before we meet!

First reel in a while and first with music and voiceover!!

Shallow latch is a really common concern - causes pain and trauma to ni***es, and can lead to baby taking in ++ air or lower milk transfer.

While it can be a sign of tongue restriction/tension there are a few things you can do which could help improve their latch.

Firstly move their arm closest to you - brings them closer to the breast.

Next, make sure their body is online and if their twisting away, pull them into you so their tummy is against you - in an older child, this could mean they are hip to hip with you, or even almost kneeling - this prevents them being pulled away/onto the ni**le by their body weight.

Finally, move them down towards their feet - this will bring their chin into the breast, nose away and should widen their gape allowing more breast into their mouth.

Give them a go and let me know how they go!

Hope you’ve had a lovely festive period - thought it was time to pop on and say hello & reintroduce myself!

I’m Jenny and I’m an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant), the only internationally recognised qualification for lactation support.

I’m also an NMC registered paediatric nurse (I worked for over 10yrs in Children’s A&E in South London) and Health Visitor as well.

When my daughter (now 12 & in the picture with me!) was born, I realised how little I really knew about breastfeeding and
had underestimated the challenges I might
face (more about that in earlier posts ⬇️).

I’ve been working independently supporting families with feeding issues for the last two years and love my work - I pride myself on offering advice and support to help parents reach their feeding goals and to make fully informed feeding choices.

I’m in the process of training to be a tongue tie practitioner & it’s opened my eyes to how big the impact can be (impacting breathing, sleep and dental challenges as well as feeding) and how important working on oral tension needs to come before frenulectomy.

As a change to the normal schedule, I’ll be at Wivenhoe Bumps & Babies *tomorrow* and then back to the first session of the month from October - looking forward to seeing some of you there, with Chloe from First Start there it’ll be well worth a visit.
