2025 has definitely been a tougher year then it should have been for so many reasons.

When I look back at the year from a professional perspective I am so grateful for the opportunities to continue to work, the learning I've been able to do and the people I've met along the way.

Here's to 2026!

Seeing out 2025 and all that has happened by celebrating that we're still standing and ready to rise again for 2026.

Work for this year is over and I'm looking forwards to family time and celebrating the season with my babies and family.

Winter Solstice tomorrow, an opportunity to lean into the darkness and welcome in the light.

Building self esteem is an important part of my role as a children's therapist.

I always have a number of games and activities available to play, starting small and being curious - can they feel proud of themselves?

Encouraging recognition of how it feels to feel pride and accomplishment no matter how small the task.

A seat in a safe environment, an activity you enjoy and someone to listen to you.

Sounds simple, but it takes time to build a relationship in order to enable trust and connection.

I am thankful that my work with children and young people is able to provide some hours of support in schools but it's not always enough.

Funding for charities, like the one I work with, is limited and unfortunately therapeutic interventions are not always prioritised within budgets or when compared to attendance and academic achievement.

Mental health and wellbeing should come before academic achievement, without support and wellbeing being prioritised children and young people are not in a position to learn and grow - a small shift in priorities could improve outcomes for our young people all round!

Fourteen-year-old boys aren’t 'too old' to struggle with big emotions — in fact, this age is one of the most challenging for emotional regulation.

Their brains are still developing the skills that help them pause, reflect and steady themselves, while hormones and rapid changes in identity turn everything up on the inside.

Here’s what big feelings can sound like through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy. It’s not defiance. It’s not disrespect. It’s development.

If you’re supporting a young person who feels things intensely, my Managing Big Feelings Toolkit gives clear, brain-based strategies to help them build emotional regulation skills. Find it via the link in comments below ⬇️ or through the Linktree Shop in Bio.

Fourteen isn’t 'too old' to struggle with big emotions — it’s the age where everything is changing at once.

Brain development, hormones, identity, friendships… it’s a lot to hold inside a body that’s still learning emotional regulation.

Here’s what big feelings can sound like through the eyes of a 14-year-old girl. It’s not attitude. It’s not disrespect. It’s development.

As usual, the male version is also being posted today.

Look out for our new series - 'Emotional Regulation Through The Years'.

If you’re supporting a young person who feels things deeply, my Managing Big Feelings Toolkit is designed to help them build the skills they need with calm, brain-based strategies.
