It ’s a special time of year when the waves play joyfully against the backdrop of blue skies and the warmth of the sun. ☀️

‘Playing with waves’ is one of my favourite forms of Shibashi 1. As you do this wonderful Qi Gong move, It can not only improve your flexibility and balance, but also catapult you back in time, connecting you to your most playful self.

Use it as a time to intuitively welcome in and celebrate as the sun comes into its own. As you intentionally open up your heart, be cognisant of possibilities and opportunities that have the potential to play in your sphere. 🤩

As the golden hues of autumn envelop our landscapes, nature gracefully demonstrates the art of letting go. Leaves fall from trees, drifting gently to the ground, reminding us of the cyclical beauty of life and the importance of release. In this serene and colourful season, Qi Gong, an ancient Chinese self-renewal practice, offers us a profound way to slow down, embrace change and find balance within ourselves.

Autumn is a time governed by the metal element in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Metal represents clarity, precision, and the ability to let go of what is no longer needed. The lungs, the yin organ associated with metal, play a crucial role in this seasonal transition. Just as leaves fall away to prepare trees for winter, our lungs help us release what is unnecessary, making room for renewal.

As I walked through the grounds of Thorpe Hall in Thorpe Le Soken in Suffolk last week, I saw this stunning tree in the midst of its transition. Autumn is a beautiful and transitional time of year as the leaves start to change colour and rich hues of pinks, ambers and reds start to dominate.

The seasonal cycle is essential to maintaining harmony in nature. Autumn is the yin to Spring’s yang. It’s the time when earth starts to slow down and prepares to rest. Understanding these cycles is part of understanding the balance in nature and ourselves.

Slow down, Let go, Nourish and Strengthen. This is the time to be grateful for what you have and pay attention to what you value…

Embracing Autumn 🍂

As we move from the earth energy of late summer into Autumn, in our Qi Gong for Health practice, we gently and purposefully tune inward and explore the principle of ‘letting go’.

It’s the time to let go of what no longer serves us, like trees shedding their old leaves; and as we prepare for the colder months ahead, it’s important that we look at physically and mentally strengthening ourselves, as well as our qi reserves.

In Qi Gong, the element of metal is associated with Autumn and this season we also draw inspiration from the Metal element and focus on energising and harmonizing the lungs which are a yin organ that embodies this element's essence.

Benefits of Qi Gong for your Wellbeing

Did you know……Qi Gong isn’t just about movement – it’s a holistic practice that harmonizes your body, breath, mind, energy and spirit.

Regular practice can improve flexibility, reduce stress and boost your immune system.

I’ve been taught the Daoist way which is a philosophical and spiritual tradition originating in ancient China with a belief in the natural way of living in harmony with the wisdom of nature and the natural flow of the universe.

My sessions are very much inspired by the beauty of nature and the interconnectedness of yin yang. Late summer season is still upon us as we start to transition into Autumn. This is our time to embrace the Earth element and start to ground and centre ourselves.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s session in Wivenhoe.

THE SEASONS OF QI GONG

As we move from mid-summer to late summer and before the cooler autumn weather arrives, this is the time where nature hangs in the balance. We move from the Fire element of summer to the Earth season in Chinese Medicine and Qi Gong.

The Earth element in Qi Gong primarily relates to the ability to be grounded and centred. Earth qi breathing and movement will help you to nourish and harmonise your body, breath, mind, qi and spirit.

With a combination of relaxing, uplifting movements, breathing exercises and active meditation, Qi Hong is an ancient Chinese self-renewal energy practice to create health, harmony and wellbeing through relaxing movement.
