Meet the Instructor – Sophie at Cranleigh

Say hello to Sophie, one of our wonderful instructors in Cranleigh and Godalming!

Sophie’s journey into teaching yoga started with a simple but powerful realisation — it’s never too late. She’d often thought about training as a yoga teacher but always found reasons not to… until friends encouraged her to go for it. She’s so glad she did.

For Sophie, yoga has always been more than just a workout. It’s a chance to take time for herself, find inner calm, and reconnect with body and mind. As her children grew and she had more time to focus on her practice, she became stronger, more confident, and more focused — both on and off the mat.

Now, she feels incredibly lucky to share what yoga has given her with others.

In Sophie’s classes, you can expect:
– A full body workout
– Time to slow down and find calm
– Support to explore your body’s potential
– A relaxed, welcoming atmosphere
– Plenty of smiles along the way

Join Sophie in Cranleigh to move, breathe, and reconnect — with yourself and with what your body can do.

Right… this is a bit different 😄

We’ve been asked by the team behind the The Great British Sewing Bee to spread the word…

They’re on the lookout for their next contestants — and they’d love to see more men apply.

Now, we know Bro-ga is more stretching hamstrings than hemming trousers…

But…
👀 There’s got to be a few of you quietly handy with a needle?
👀 Fixing kit, altering clothes, maybe even knocking up a masterpiece or two?

No judgement here… (we’ve seen some of your flexibility — sewing might be less painful).

If you fancy swapping your mat for a measuring tape and giving it a go:

⏰ Closes Wednesday 13th May, 8pm

Go on… thread the needle.
(Just not during class.) 😏

Cobra Pose is a great move for opening up the chest and loosening the lower back.

If you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk, driving, cycling or training, your body can start to round forward. Cobra helps counteract that by gently stretching the front of the body while strengthening the back.

How to try it:

• Lie face down with your hands under your shoulders
• Press gently through your palms and lift your chest
• Keep your hips and legs relaxed on the floor
• Look forward or slightly up and breathe steadily

You don’t need to push too high, the goal is to lengthen the front of the body and wake up the back muscles.

Like most Bro-ga moves, it’s simple, effective and great for stiff bodies.

Not every stretch has to happen in a class.

A lot of the guys who come to Bro-ga start adding 5–10 minutes of stretching at home once they realise how much better their body feels afterwards.

You don’t need a full routine.
You don’t need to be flexible.
You don’t even need a yoga mat.

Sometimes it’s just:

• A quick forward fold in the morning
• A hip stretch after a run
• A couple of minutes loosening your back after work

Small things done regularly make a big difference.

Bro-ga is about helping you move better in everyday life, not just during the class.

Having worked hard to resist running online Bro-ga classes, I’ve given in.

A huge part of Bro-ga is in-person connection which just can’t be replicated online so I’ve never been too keen on it.

In lockdown I was forced to PT online and never enjoyed coaching as much as I do in person. For me being in-person allows me to get a better understanding of how the client is moving that day and reposed accordingly and also you ‘feel and sense’ how the person is which affects how and what I may delivery in a PT session. Which you can’t do through a screen.

We’re calling it Bro-ga at Home and it’s for members to double up on yoga sessions, catch up when the weeks’ been busy or not miss a week if away or on holiday.

Good luck Emma who’ll be teaching the class.

Meet Graeme – Farnborough

“In calmness we unlock our true potential.”

It’s a mantra Graeme realised he had been living by long before he stepped onto a yoga mat.

Graeme has spent most of his life being physically active. From years of competitive cycling to training in martial arts including Judo, Tiger-Crane Kung Fu, Aikido and Muay Thai, movement and discipline have always been a big part of his life.

But it was yoga that brought everything together.

Through yoga, Graeme found something that supported both body and mind, improving his focus, balance and breathing, not just in training but in everyday life.

As Graeme puts it, the sense of connection and wholeness yoga creates can be quite honestly mind-blowing.

After experiencing those benefits himself and completing his teacher training, he felt a strong pull to share it with others.

And that’s exactly what he does through Bro-ga, helping men discover how powerful a bit of movement, breathing and calm can be.

We have enjoyed collaborating with Hogsback so much since the beginning of March from Hogsback March month to the Bro-ga class held at Hogsback’s The Tap in April.

It was a brilliant event and was sold out very quickly so we look forward to more/similar in the future.

And remember, you can find us weekly in your local area for Bro-ga sessions

Last night Bro-ga hit Hogs Back Brewery 🥳

22 men. One barn. Proper session.

We moved, stretched, breathed, de-stressed…
then finished with core work and a well-earned relaxation.

After that? Straight to the Tap Room 🍺🍕

This is what it’s about.

Over the past 5 years, Bro-ga has grown massively…
but the best part isn’t the sessions — it’s the people.

Real friendships.
Strong bonds.
A proper community.

Because let’s be honest —
we all need connection.

What do you do to stay connected? 👇

Tree Pose is one of those moves that looks simple… until you try it.

It’s a great pose for building balance, stability and focus, while strengthening your legs and improving control through the hips and core.

For a lot of the guys who come to Bro-ga, balance isn’t something they’ve worked on before. But it’s surprisingly important as we get older — helping with coordination, stability and injury prevention.

How to try it:

• Stand tall and steady on one leg
• Place the sole of your other foot against your calf or inner thigh
• Keep your core engaged and your gaze steady
• Try to stay balanced for a few breaths

If you wobble, that’s completely normal. Most people do.

Like most things in Bro-ga, it’s not about perfection — it’s about giving your body the chance to improve over time.

Most men don’t realise how stiff they’ve become… until something starts hurting.

Tight lower back.
Achy hips.
Knees that feel older than they should.

If you sit a lot (desk, driving, life), this is happening whether you notice it or not.

This is the exact 15-minute routine I use most days to stay loose, pain-free and moving well.

No studio.
No fancy setup.
Just a mat and a bit of floor space.

If I skip this for a few days, I feel it straight away… back tightens up, hips start complaining, everything feels harder than it should.

This is also exactly the kind of thing we focus on at Bro-ga — helping men move better, reduce aches, and actually enjoy looking after their bodies (without the usual yoga stereotypes).

This isn’t about becoming flexible.

It’s about:
• Moving without stiffness
• Reducing aches and pains
• Feeling like yourself again

If you’ve got 10–15 minutes, it makes a bigger difference than you think.

Give it a go and see how you feel after a week.

Bro-ga at Hogs Back Brewery is now FULL!

We’ve loved teaming up with Hogs Back Brewery and it’s been brilliant to see so many of you getting involved.

We’re looking forward to a great evening on the 16th April. Yoga, a proper stretch, and finishing exactly how it should be… with a beer and pizza.

If you missed out this time, keep an eye out. We’ll be doing more.
