As we begin 2023 it seems that recently there have been many families affected by tragedy and loss. As we all mourn the passing of our loved ones and come to terms with our losses, when there are so many things to be down about, we have to keep looking up. We have to make a conscious effort to seek out the people, places and things that will bring us joy in the days and months ahead.
I was out for dinner recently with my family, and sitting at a table across from ours was a lady who I’d describe as a youthful grandmother. She had 2 young children with her who I again presumed were her grandchildren, 1 little boy in the high chair and a girl about 5 or 6. The little boy’s sister and gran were making funny faces at the wee boy and he would just spontaneously burst into the most incredible laughter that filled the entire restaurant which made everyone who could hear it smile and laugh as well.
It reminded me that even in our busy every day lives we have so many things and loved ones to mourn and be sad or angry about, but parallel to that we have so many things that we can be joyful and grateful for. Just like the laughter of a child or grandchild I was reminded that whilst I was in a hotel with my family eating a beautiful meal, there are many around the world at this time who are not as fortunate.
At the time the young boy was laughing heartily, I presumed the whole hotel heard the joyous sound of that young boy and his sister & gran giggling, and that everyone who did hear could not have helped themselves but to smile and laugh along.
But the sad reality is that when I looked at the very next table on the other side who were closer to the laughing child than us, they never reacted and were completely oblivious, as though they never heard it. Those parents at that table were probably so caught up in their own heads and life’s worries of the day, and their three children each had their faces stuck in devices that they also completely missed the laughter and never got to experience that brief moment of pure human joy🤩
So my advice to everyone today is to be present and aware of those precious moments and not only hear the laughter but feel it, be present to experience those brief moments of Joy and be grateful for all that brings a smile to your face today and everyday.
Always remember that no matter how bad we think our day may be or what we have to be sad and mournful about, keep looking up, keep moving forward and always be looking in the direction of where you want to go and keep doing what makes your heart sing.
Do this and I can promise you will be surprised how many little things will make you smile, maybe today your laughter will catch someone’s attention and remind them that they too have much be grateful for. I know it can be very hard to see the good in those very bad situations, but please do keep looking up, when our heads are down we miss the miracles. Never be to busy, to stressed or to distracted to see, hear and feel those joyful moments! 🙏 Be the change! Have a wonderful day. ❤️
