So quiet on here while I work a fully booked week and juggle the children’s school holidays - plus some recent and unexpected illness where I have been supported so kindly by all my clients and their families.

I don’t currently have any spaces for new visits but rest assured when anything becomes available I will advertise on here and linked local pages.

Recent news also, includes the addition of an associate carer who has and will be available to cover absence and holidays so that my less able clients don’t go without care and support when I am on annual leave.

Thank you all for the ongoing support as I approach almost a year of independent private caring - it’s been ace !!

A massively helpful resource when looking after someone with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes - it’s a good starting point and a handy reference guide alongside learning about an individuals needs and routines.

Twice this week, I have watched an elderly individual fade into the busy life in which we all live. One man just needed Panadol for his wife, but the shop assistant simply said it’s in ‘6’. But he struggled to navigate the supermarket, and as I watched him go in the wrong direction, I left all my groceries and took him where he needed to go. Today, I watched an elderly man struggle in the heat. He had had a fall with a huge scrape and blood on his leg. He walked past people in the cafe while he slowly made his way to his car. Not one person stopped. Or looked. Or acknowledged him. I took him to his car and checked if he was okay. He told me he had a fall and wasn’t sure how the air conditioner worked in his car, so he just didn’t use it. I sat with him until his air conditioner kicked in and heard him talk about the frail old body that he is in, which fails him now every single day.
When you see an elderly person walking down the street, searching in the supermarket, or struggling to get to their car, take a minute out of your busy schedule and ask them if they need a hand. Think about your grandparents and your parents and how pi**ed you would be if someone didn’t stop to help them. But more importantly, think of them as you.
Once upon a time, they were you. They were busy; they had work; they had children; they were able... Today, they are just in an older body that is not going as fast as it used to and this busy life is confusing. They deserve our utmost respect and consideration. One day, it will be you, and it will be us. I wish more people gave a sh*t about them and acknowledged them for their admirable existence and geez I hope someday, not that far away, someone does it for me. 🙏

This last few weeks has been challenging as I support clients and friends through grief and loss - my presence has been valued by a client who lost his wife of 70 years - and after all other care and help ceased due to her passing - I was able to adjust my role to remain in service to that client as a companion, never filling a gap but offering that human connection that is so often needed when the dust has settled and life feels lonelier. It is a privilege to be able to help a family who have been so kind as employers and also as friends.

Grief affects us all differently and no matter who you are, support is never far away.

Read about different experiences of grief and how it can feel to be bereaved. Learn about the grief cycle, and how grief relates to mental health.

Every month we take apart hundreds of uncollected prescriptions that patients have requested but not collected. This gives our team extra work and therefore delays collection time

Quiet on the social media side of things while I concentrate on making some changes to my weekly schedules around demand for more care with one lovely client and also the anticipated loss of another whom I have known for a while.

These are sometimes inevitable and always sad changes to my work day but also a privelage, in that I have been able to help support some laughter, lots of singing and comfort in someone’s final days.
