The Acorns Fostering Service is a Darlington-based organisation which is seeking to recruit people in the North East and North Yorkshire, from all walks of life who have the necessary enthusiasm and/or experience to provide fostering placements to children and young people who have a range of diverse needs.

𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗠𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗙𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 !!!

There has been hundreds of responses from people voting and sharing feedback on the theme for Foster Care Fortnight 2026.

At the back end of last week it was announced by The Fostering Network that the theme for is 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴!

The theme brings together three key threads.

- It shines a light on the everyday experiences of fostering, raising awareness of the positive impact foster carers have.

- It raises awareness of the pressures foster carers are facing in today’s climate – from low allowances and fees and inconsistent support, to feeling excluded from decision making about the children in their care.

- This is Fostering is a call to action. It gives us a collective platform to stand together to call on the government for meaningful change.

As a fostering agency, we would love you all to get involved and spread the word about the need for more foster carers to come forward, shining a light on the excellent work and impact that foster carers have on children that in desperate need of help.

Foster Care Fortnight 2026 will take place from Monday, May 12th to Sunday, May 25th.

Create memories with your Foster Children in 2026 with a homemade Memory Jar.

The process of making a memory jar is very therapeutic, but it can also be a helpful memory tool for your foster children too.

Throughout the year, record all of those precious memories, pop them in your memory jar and open the jar in December to reflect on all of the amazing things you have done and achieved.

There is a misconception that fostering has to be full time. Many people assume that they need to commit long-term, however it is important to know that there are flexible options that make fostering accessible for different lifestyles and schedules.

The different types of fostering that you may want to consider part time include:

👉𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁- 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴

Caring for a child for just a few weeks

👉𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴

Providing immediate / temporary care during a crisis

👉𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴

Giving full time foster carers a break over weekends or holidays

👉𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 /𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴

Helping with post-surgery or special needs care temporarily
