When does a medicine shortage officially begin? When the authorities announce it, or when the supply chain first shows signs of breaking down?

• JUNE: Shortage notification from Australia + 2 more UK out-of-stock alerts; another price concession from DHSC.
• JULY: Ongoing Denmark shortages, first reports from Slovenia, NHS Trusts begin reporting, and further UK price concessions.
• AUG–SEPT: Shortage alerts widen - Slovakia, Canada, Italy, Croatia. Out-of-stocks climb, NHS Trusts scramble to source stock, price concessions continue.
• OCT: DHSC finally issues the supply notification, but by then MedSupply Intelligence users have been acting on months of warnings.
