Levothyroxine 🤍

▫️Different brands have different fillers.
▫️Lactose is an ingredient found in some Levothyroxine medications.
▫️Be aware of brand changes.
▫️Check the ingredients.
▫️It is possible to have side effects / react to a brand change.
▫️Report any side effects you or your child experience.

🦋 Elena suffered with her skin for many months, but her face definitely became more inflamed when her Levothyroxine brand was changed.
🦋Elena’s face became particularly red and I had no other explanation.
🦋When speaking to the local GP surgery, I was told a reaction was unlikely, however if I was concerned speak to the pharmacy.
🦋The pharmacy were great and made a note on Elena’s records.
🦋We have had a new brand ever since with no issues, so I thought no more of it.

🤍 When we started weaning, Elena had some reactions to food, and it was later confirmed Elena has allergies to milk and egg.
🦋It wasn’t until recently when we met with a new doctor, I was made aware of lactose being a common ingredient in Levothyroxine. Therefore this could explain what caused Elena’s rash and leg swelling.

❤️Elena is now doing very well. We have used the same brand for the last few months and I continue to crush the tablet and mix with breast milk or water.

Hospital Appointment 🥼🩺

👶🏻 Elena is almost 11 months now and yesterday we met with her paediatric doctor. This is the first time I’ve left an appointment feeling positive and optimistic.

❤️At 4 months Elena wasn’t meeting some of her milestones, and was a little delayed with her physical strength such as head control. Elena is now sitting, crawling, pulling herself up and standing. She’s getting stronger every day and is such a happy little babe. 🥰 👏🏻

🥛Since cutting out dairy from her diet, Elena’s reflux is no more, and her skin has improved drastically. Although, she is prone to dry skin.

🦷Elena has 4 teeth and 2 more on the way. She is really enjoying her food. 🍌🥒🥦

🏥As Elena’s first ultrasound was unsuccessful, she will have another one when she is 2 years old. This will determine if she has a thyroid and if there is a possibility of her ever trialing of meds.

🤍Elena remains on the same dosage of Levothyroxine.

💩Elena still has episodes of constipation and does become tired easily. These can be typical hypothyroid symptoms.

🦋When I look back to when we received Elena’s diagnosis, and the eventful months that then followed, I can’t believe we are where we are now. 🙏🏻🦋🤍

❤️New CH parents, it does get easier. Remain strong and enjoy your little baby. Time really does fly by. 🦋🤍

Endocrinology ➡️
The endocrine system that controls the body’s hormones.

‘Endocrinologist, Endo, endocrine team, endocrinology.’ I heard these terms mentioned a lot when Elena was diagnosed and I didn’t really understand them. 🤯

👩‍⚕️An endocrinologist is a doctor who is trained and specialises in the endocrine system. An endocrinologist can diagnose and treat disorders caused by
hormonal conditions. For example, thyroid disorders and diabetes.

➡️The Endocrine system is made up of different glands that produce hormones:
🦋The thyroid and parathyroid glands (in your neck)
🫁The thymus gland (In your chest between the lungs)
🥼The pancreas (which is part of the endocrine system and digestive system.)
🧠The pituitary and the pineal glands (in the brain.)
💙Testis (male)
💖Ovaries (female)
🩺Adrenal glands (2 small glands that sit on top of the kidneys)

👶🏻If your baby has been diagnosed with congenital hypothyroidism, you will most likely be referred to either a paediatric doctor specialising in hormones, or an endocrinologist.
