We have one more place available on the Wednesday student clinical, supervised by Floraine .
This is an opportunity to access acupuncture for those in financial hardship or for someone who just wants to give it a go . The only requirements for a block of five treatments with the TAA clinical year student Joana, is that you can visit weekly on a Wednesday for five weeks (£75 for the block ) . If this is of interest to you or to someone you know , please private message with an email address that can be passed on to Joana . Joana’s clinical 6 months under supervision finishes in early March , so you would need to seize the day 🙂 . Ooh almost , forgot to say , she is a lovely , highly professional practitioner and all her patients are really valuing their time with her .

At long last - the short course ‘acupuncture ‘ training is being questioned . Please make sure that your acupuncturist is safe and has a minimum of 3years training (equivalent to 3400 hrs of training ) . There are people out there who have 3 days training and say they are providing acupuncture .

Delighted to have Intern practitioner Claire Bunyard on board for six months . She is taking on new patients on a Wednesday - and all treatments are supervised by Floraine . During this period of her clinical training, the total cost for your first five treatments with Claire is £75. Weekly sessions are usual to begin with, reducing in frequency as you respond to treatment. If you continue beyond five treatments the cost is £20 per treatment. At long last NICE have stated in the new draft guidelines that patients need to be supported in other treatment options for the management of Chronic pain. Acupuncture is being recognised as a viable treatment option. Acupuncture practitioners and their patients know this to be true. Unfortunately access to acupuncture via the NHS is still very limited and getting even more so with cut backs. This is why if people have to pay for acupuncture , they should make sure they get the best possible. They can only be sure of this by seeing an acupuncturist registered with the British Acupuncture Council.

Instead, the draft guideline, which is now open to public consultation until 14 September 2020, says that people with a type of chronic pain called chronic primary pain should be offered supervised group exercise programmes, some types of psychological therapy, or acupuncture. This Spring has been like no other due to the containment we are now under. Where we should be following the external movement of Spring, rooted in its upward and outward dynamic, we have been made to be too insular, just like the air plant in the image below. As a result Spring is presenting us all with different challenges and has affected us all in different ways on a physical, mental and emotional level. During the coming weeks I will, now and again , send you a short email which will hopefully be a helpful read either for yourself or for a family member.
While in China acupuncture is being used in the treatment of COVID symptoms, the sudden closure of every acupuncture clinic in the U.K. has left many people without treatment which they relied upon for their health needs. I am thinking about my patients at this time and look forward to my return to hands on clinic work. You will know from our time together that acupuncture is more than a job to me - and there is always more to learn both with and without patients. However, I am hopeful that my practical skills may be transferred and used on a voluntary basis via the NHS Helpforce, treating the front line doctors and nurses. There is some work going on at the moment by Helpforce to try to set this up, if enough volunteers come forward.
