'Caregivers are super Heros in Comfortable clothes' … I love this saying! And I think it’s true … not all heroes wear capes — some are hiding in plain sight as caregivers!

Those of us who have had no experience or training in care-giving, but choose to look after our loved ones at home, find we are faced with out-of-the-ordinary challenges on a daily basis.

We quickly build a resilience that tends to be above the norm and we learn new skills as well as how to juggle work, family commitments and caregiving. We often go without sleep and food when there is a crisis and we run on adrenaline much of the time.

We don’t regret putting our lives on hold for one minute and would do it all again in a heartbeat … but often our physical and mental health can take a battering.
I wanted to share a practice with you that helped me during my caregiving years … it’s Self-Compassion …. without it I almost certainly would have experienced what is commonly known as “caregiver burnout”.

Dr Kirstin Neff is a pioneer in the field of Self-Compassion … especially for care-givers, I found her website, You Tube talks and her meditations very beneficial … here is a link to her website .
