We’ve been talking a lot about emotions and feelings this week at Radiant Minds. Emotional literacy is a key element in helping young people to understand their emotions. It’s pivotal for good mental health. So much so I’ve recently started a course specialising in Emotional Literacy, starting with ages 3-12 years and then continuing on from 12-18 years.

So I’m looking forward to using this book with my coachees. A story written by amazing tutor Nicky. She has a wonderful collection of books to support young people with their mental health and wellbeing. Highly recommend. Thank you Nicky 💜

Fantastic article written by Nicky Edwards on why coaching is great for young people 🤍

If you caught our last article, we looked at the variations between coaching, therapy and counselling, so today I want to look at why coaching needs to be in our priority list for children and young people. Coaching can feel like a new concept, but in reality, it has been around for a long time. [.....

Back to school can bring a mix of emotions, excitement, nerves and everything in between. For children, teens (and parents too!), it’s a big transition.

Some gentle reminders as you ease into the new school year:
✨ Keep routines simple and predictable, structure helps reduce worries.
✨ Talk openly about feelings, both the worries and the wins.
✨ Prioritise rest, calmer mornings start with good sleep.
✨ Remind them (and yourself) that they’re not alone in this 💛
✨ Organisation, having school bags packed or clothes out ready, help create a stress free morning.
✨ Photos of the school or going to see it before the first day can take away some of the anxieties eg knowing what door they’ll go through when they arrive.
✨ Plan a treat after the first day or week, a hot chocolate, a film, a pamper evening or whatever suits your child’s interests.
✨ Parents try and contain your own anxieties as these can rub off on to your children, also do not bombard them with questions as soon as they get home from school. Give them time to process and share when they’re ready.

Wishing everyone a smooth transition into school. If it doesn’t go to plan, that’s OK too, sometimes it takes a little longer.

Following on from my latest post for young people, this one is for the parents/carers.

It’s hard to navigate the 6 weeks holidays, to get the balance of work life vs looking after your child.

So well done to everyone who has got through the Summer holidays, I hope you’ve managed to have some fun along the way.

As the young people in your life head back to school, give your self some time to reset and recharge.

Summer Holidays are here đź’›

While the Summer holidays can be a great time to relax, they can also feel lonely, unstructured or overwhelming, especially for young people.

Here are some simple ways to support mental wellbeing over the Summer break.

Whether it’s keeping a gentle routine, moving your body or talking to someone you trust, little things can make a big difference.

📌 Save this post to revisit if things feel off.
📲 Share with a teen, parent, or carer who might need it.
