Back to school can bring a mix of emotions, excitement, nerves and everything in between. For children, teens (and parents too!), it’s a big transition.

Some gentle reminders as you ease into the new school year:
✨ Keep routines simple and predictable, structure helps reduce worries.
✨ Talk openly about feelings, both the worries and the wins.
✨ Prioritise rest, calmer mornings start with good sleep.
✨ Remind them (and yourself) that they’re not alone in this 💛
✨ Organisation, having school bags packed or clothes out ready, help create a stress free morning.
✨ Photos of the school or going to see it before the first day can take away some of the anxieties eg knowing what door they’ll go through when they arrive.
✨ Plan a treat after the first day or week, a hot chocolate, a film, a pamper evening or whatever suits your child’s interests.
✨ Parents try and contain your own anxieties as these can rub off on to your children, also do not bombard them with questions as soon as they get home from school. Give them time to process and share when they’re ready.

Wishing everyone a smooth transition into school. If it doesn’t go to plan, that’s OK too, sometimes it takes a little longer.

Following on from my latest post for young people, this one is for the parents/carers.

It’s hard to navigate the 6 weeks holidays, to get the balance of work life vs looking after your child.

So well done to everyone who has got through the Summer holidays, I hope you’ve managed to have some fun along the way.

As the temperature rises across the UK, many children and teens may feel overwhelmed, not just physically, but emotionally too. The heat can heighten irritability, anxiety, and sensory overload. That’s why ice can be a simple but powerful regulation tool to help young people manage big feelings.

Why it works:
Cold sensations stimulate the vagus nerve and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, this helps calm the body and mind. It’s a grounding technique that brings awareness back to the present moment.

These strategies are fun, sensory friendly, and can help children cool down on the outside and inside.

Alternatively a cold icy drink with a straw, Ice lolly or ice pop are all great for regulation.

Apologies for the quiet spell on here! The past few weeks have been incredibly busy, and sometimes something has to give. For me, social media often takes a back seat while I focus on what matters most, supporting young people. Thanks for sticking with me!

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the absolute privilege of working with some incredible young people. They’ve shown real courage in opening up, brought amazing creativity to everything we’ve done together, and tackled new things with so much resilience. It’s been inspiring to watch!

A Time Wheel.

A great tool to break down how you spend your time. Once it’s completed you have a great visual of how much time you spend on different areas of your life. What you maybe spend too much time doing eg social media or what areas you don’t spend enough time on eg self care. From that we come up with goals of how to improve any particular area enabling better wellbeing overall 💪🏽🤍

First of six sessions done for this new coachee! She chose a cat mask to represent what she thinks people see in her and then inside wrote what others don’t know about her. It’s a great starting point for us to move forward, opening up conversation for her to share how she’s feeling, what she is struggling with and then I can plan our next session together. She went on to decorate her mask and show off her creative flair 🤩
