First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) is an experienced physiotherapist who can directly assess and diagnose muscle, joint, and bone problems without a GP referral.
This service allows patients to get expert advice on managing their pain and may include self-management and exercise guidance, or referrals to other services if needed.
You can book an FCP appointment by contacting your GP practice directly and stating that you have a musculoskeletal issue.

What an FCP does
Assesses and diagnoses: They provide a specialist assessment for conditions like back pain, arthritis, sprains, strains, and other joint, muscle, or nerve-related pain.
Provides early management: Offers advice on how to manage your condition and can recommend a self-management plan, explains your options, and provides support for ongoing rehabilitation.
Refers when necessary: Can refer you to an outpatient physiotherapy service or to a doctor or specialist at the hospital if they determine it's required.
Streamlines care: By cutting out the need for an initial GP appointment, FCPs provide a more direct route to specialist assessment and treatment, which can speed up the care process.

To book an FCP Appointment with the FCP team Call the GP surgery or enquire through the website.
Please specify your condition when you call, explain that you have a musculoskeletal problem (a joint, muscle, bone, or nerve issue) to ensure you are booked with the correct practitioner.
No referral needed:
