Most of us are aware of the hugely tragic problem with su***de among young men.

Dads/men if you’re still with me please read:-
Your effort, courage, vulnerability & self awareness is needed more than ever.

I am not afraid of my mental health because I see it as something we all have and something we need to be aware of and take care of, as much as, or maybe even more so than our physical health. A healthier mind generally means a healthier body.

I had a difficult time as a young person, experiencing sexual abuse, parental alcoholism, expectations and labels. This took its toll and showed up in many ways such as, eating disorder, body image issues, anxiety, feelings of ‘not being enough’. This is not surprising considering the patriarchal society we live in and I am far from being alone with these experiences.

What I do know is that being open about experience and allowing myself to be vulnerable, was helpful to me and also to others. We are not alone - we are all human and as I said, we all have mental health and physical health.

Recently I have noticed a problem that there are still too many men who can’t, won’t or don’t feel, for some reason, that they can open up about their own mental health. At times, only being vocal about the mental health of others, often females!!!
This to me is playing a huge role in the stigma around male mental health & su***de rates. Although women don’t have equality in this patriarchal system, it is also hugely detrimental to male health.

I have a son, grandsons, nephews, son-in-law & many male friends.
DADS/ALL MEN - Come on
Make the change
Be courageous
Change takes courage

It’s scary I know, but there’s too many male su***des all over the world and only you guys can make that change.
Save lives through your own vulnerability - put yourself out there.
Women are vulnerable, it’s common knowledge, but it makes us stronger in so many ways. Unfortunately you guys have to do the work- we can’t change this on our own.

Whirlwind of a day

Comfort and support is key.
Block out the light.
Weight on belly/pelvis feels safe
Comfy clothes

No special equipment needed.
Just a breathing body & busy mind.

After being in the company of 40 others for a few hours, I just needed to go into myself. Be still, quiet, feel my breath and soften in all the places that were feeling so tense.

It’s ok to switch off for a few minutes or longer if needed and so much is gained from doing so.

Many of us grew up being sent to our room alone as a punishment. No wonder it can take us years to be ok with being still, being quiet.

After being switched on for hours, I need to switch off.
It’s amazing what only a few minutes can do. No need to even nap and I feel replenished.

A gentle forward fold, supported with cushions. Brings the focus back to ourselves. Keeping an even, equal breath helps lower our heart rate and blood pressure, activating the parasympathetic nervous system helping us to relax. Can ease anxiety and help create a sense of grounding.
Gently stretches our whole back body, increases circulation and digestion.

Back in June I graduated with a Diploma in Yoga Therapy.

This allows me to work on a one-to-one basis, providing people with tools and practises to use in everyday life, to enhance your overall well-being, mentally, emotionally, physically or spiritually.

Yoga therapy is a holistic approach, based on the many aspects of yoga, including breathwork, movement, voicework and meditation, as well as discussion.

Therapy costs £55 per session with an initial 5 session booking for £225.

I thought I’d explain a little bit about the accessible chair yoga class that I teach every Monday 11-12pm live online.

I know there’s alot people out there who feel excluded from many things in life, due to living with a disability, an illness, chronic pain and many other reasons. I don’t know the best way to reach people so thought I’d explain a wee but here.

It’s 100% chair based yoga, accessible and adaptable. It’s a beautiful, slow paced class, taking time to pause, listen to our bodies and to respect what they need or don’t need. Yoga is not all about physically moving but learning to connect with our bodies through our breath. We all know our bodies better than anyone else, so it’s important to trust what you feel.

The class is donation based and online, hopefully easing the financial burden as well as the stress that can be involved in transportation. It also allows people from all over UK to connect, with the possibility of new friendships.
