The very first has finally taken root and reached our shores– something so many of us have dreamed about for a long time.
I began on Saturday with the wonderful Methilhill Children’s Initiative, sharing seaweed leek and potato soup and seaweed muffins – a perfect start to the celebrations. From there, the day only grew richer.
The evening at Dreel Halls was unforgettable: stunning seaweed projections lit up the building, and we enjoyed two powerful films – Into the Oceanic by Rob Page and Elizabeth Ogilvie (first shown at COP26, and one I was lucky enough to be part of back in the day), and Umi No Oya – Mother of the Sea, an inspiring story about a British scientist whose work helped seaweed farming thrive and who is now honoured in Japan.
Rob and Elizabeth joined us to answer questions and share more about their ongoing projects, which made the evening even more special.
The feast was equally memorable: award-winning fine dining from The Bistro Dory in Pittenweem, beautifully plated with Fay’s help, paired with seaweed-infused cocktails featuring the brilliant Darnley’s Gin from Kingsbarns.
Huge thanks to Alan and all at Dreel Halls for their support in making it happen.
It was a true celebration for the mind, the heart, and the belly – and a reminder of what’s possible when community, creativity and good food come together. 💚
Grateful to everyone who came along and helped bring this vision to life. Here’s to many more seaweed celebrations in Fife – and don’t forget to check out the rest of this week’s activities!
