SPRING BLENDS 🌿🌼

With Spring now upon us, why not try some bright, refreshing oils in your diffuser to enhance those lovely Spring feelings.

One of my favourite oils to diffuse is grapefruit. Its crisp, fresh scent is really energising. This is one I especially like to use in the mornings. Lemongrass is another favourite for my diffuser. It has a fresh, citrusy scent with a herbal twist. It cleanses the air and helps focus the mind

Or you could try a blend by adding a few drops of different oils. Here are a few suggestions for gorgeous Spring blends:-

🌿Lemon, lavender & peppermint
🌿Lime, orange & lemongrass
🌿Geranium, lemon & grapefruit

There are lots of ways of diffusing essential oils, such as an oil burner or electric diffuser. Diffusing essential oils can help improve your mood, reduce stress and enhance your general well-being

(Take care when using a diffuser to follow the manufacturer’s advice)

Aromatherapy massage combines the calming physical effects of massage with the therapeutic effects of the essential oils, allowing the mind to calm and the body to relax

Particularly good for calming the mind are chamomile & lavender, and for mindfulness, ylang ylang and neroli (two of my favourites)

Essential oils enhance massage by combining therapeutic plant extracts with touch. During Aromatherapy massage you experience both aroma inhalation, and absorption of essential oils through the skin, aiding relaxation, relieving stress and lifting your mood. It can also help soothe tired muscles and joints

ESSENTIAL OILS FOR BEGINNERS 🌿

If you’re new to essential oils, it can be hard to know where to start. Here’s a selection of versatile oils that would be great for your collection if you’re just starting out

Lavender - A must! Lavender has a sweet floral aroma. It has many therapeutic benefits and is particularly good for calming the nervous system

Peppermint - A fresh, minty oil. Can help with focus and concentration

Geranium - a floral oil with spicy, herby undertones. For stress and anxiety; helps balance the hormones

Tea-Tree - Has a fresh aroma and antiviral, antibacterial properties which help support the immune system

Roman Chamomile - An oil with a strong, fruity aroma. A great one for promoting calm

Bergamot - A sweet, warm, floral oil, both calming and uplifting

Neroli - A light, floral aroma. Great for stress-related conditions

Frankincense - A woody, earthy aroma. It’s calming and promotes mindfulness

Lemon - A bright, fresh aroma which can lift the spirits and help with fatigue. Great for the immune system

Ginger - A spicy, earthy aroma. It’s warming, comforting and when used in massage is great for the muscles and joints

USING ESSENTIAL OILS IN THE HOME 🏡

There are lots of simple but effective ways of using essential oils around the home. Here are a few ideas for using them to make your home smell lovely, using just cotton balls

Drawers can be scented by placing a cotton ball (or tissue) with a couple of drops of a favourite oil into the drawer. If you like floral scents, try ylang ylang, rose or jasmine

Or how about scenting your linen drawers and cupboards with something fresh like lemon, peppermint or tea tree

Scent your bathroom with a refreshing oil like pine or grapefruit (one of my favourites). You could place the scented cotton balls in a small pot or basket, or alternatively add a few drops to some dried flowers or pot pourri

You could also use cotton balls as natural mothballs, adding a few drops of cedarwood oil to the cotton balls

Try a bath bag for a relaxing weekend treat 🛁

For a calming evening bath, take a few sprigs of lavender, pop them into a muslin bag (or you can use just a piece of thin fabric), and sprinkle a few drops of lavender essential oil on to enhance the aroma. Tie the bag to the taps, letting it hang in the stream of hot water while the bath is running

Lavender is a wonderful oil for the nervous system. It can help calm you down and is great for sleep

Or if you’re in need of a more invigorating soak, try a morning bath with rosemary instead, using a few sprigs of fresh rosemary and a few drops of rosemary oil

Rosemary is a stimulating oil, which can help improve our focus and concentration, clearing our minds and helping us prepare for the day ahead

The treatment includes a warm, relaxing foot bath using essential oils. Peppermint is particularly nice for a refreshing foot bath. Or why not try a lovely aromatic floral like jasmine or ylang ylang for a more relaxing treatment?

SMELL & MEMORY 🌺

Have you ever thought about the link between smell and memory? Maybe the smell of a particular flower reminds you of something? Or maybe there’s a perfume that reminds you of a special time in your life? Geranium is one of my favourite aromas as it takes me back to an amazing holiday in Greece

Smells go to the parts of the brain that are connected to memory and emotions (the hypocampus and the amygdala). They trigger our memory and this is why a particular smell can take us back to a particular time or place

Positive memories can have a huge impact on our mood, mental health and general well-being and our sense of smell can evoke these memories

An Aromatherapy massage might evoke some special memories for you. I have a large selection of essential oils and will guide you through them, creating a massage oil that’s bespoke to you
