Let's talk about healing.

I don't mean physical healing is needed when you scrape your knee or cut your finger. Let's talk about emotional healing.

Emotional healing is the ability to acknowledge the impact of events and circumstances in our lives and the ability to take control of your thoughts, emotions and feelings.

Going through a breakup, losing a job, recovering from sickness or losing a loved one can cause feelings of stress, depression, anxiety or even self-sabotaging behaviours.

The thing about depression and anxiety is that if you have experienced them for a while, it can sometimes be challenging to recognise that you are getting better.

The healing process can take time and sometimes feel like you're taking one step forward and two steps back. So, take comfort in knowing that progress isn't linear, and when you slip back, you can still keep moving forward.

If you or someone you know is currently experiencing these situations, save or share this post to understand what it looks like when you are on the mend.

Fact!

Transformation is a process that happens over time.

That means the journey from brokenness to wholeness is a step by step process which requires patience.

Just like a caterpillar needs time to rearrange itself to become a butterfly, we must also go through the necessary changes and adjustments to be who we want to be.

The road from overwhelming, stress, or trauma can be bumpy, uncomfortable and even painful. However, the result can be glorious and beautiful.

Do you need transformation in your life but don’t know where to begin? Get in touch today; I am only an email away.

Relationship therapy is not an admission of failure; it's a willingness to resolve problems rather than avoid them.

It takes courage to admit we're experiencing difficulties, and therapy can help improve problems before they develop into a crisis.

No issue is ever too small to discuss in the safety of a therapy session, and we don't need to wait until things are really bad, before we take steps to improve them.

Even when things feel insurmountable, couples are often surprised how much therapy can help get the relationship back on track.

If you would like to learn more about how relationship therapy can benefit you, email me at practice@suziwilliamspsychotherapy.com and book an appointment.

Anxiety might look like...

1. Feeling nervous or restless,
2. Having an increased heart rate and breathlessness
3. Feeling weak or tired,
4. Having trouble sleeping
5. Uncontrollable thoughts that bring a feeling of danger or dread
6. Inability to concentrate
7. Feeling unreal, disconnected from usual tasks
8. Increased bowel frequency

These are just some physical symptoms that signal anxiety and it is easy to mistake feeling anxious with something else.

Symptoms of anxiety are a way the body and the mind let us know that there is something underlying that needs to be identified, resolved and reframed. In many cases unconscious negative thinking is usually the cause.

One way to cope with anxiety is to locate the origins of negative thinking and bring it into consciousness- this can be done through using Psychodynamic strategies and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

Psychodynamic strategies can bring awareness to root causes of negative thinking and
CBT helps you learn different ways of thinking about and reacting to situations that cause anxiety.

So here is where I come in.

As a therapist, I can help you become aware of the way you may be thinking and work with you to change any negative thought patterns and behaviours before they spiral out of control.

If you struggle with any of the above and need someone to talk to, contact me at practice@suziwilliamspsychotherapy.com.

I'd love to hear from you. 😊

According to the Counselling Directory, 70% of young people who experience a mental health problem do not receive the appropriate support.

The formative years of adulthood are so crucial as young people go through so many mental and physical changes. As a result this can be a very confusing time for them.

Some of the most common mental health problems affecting children and young people include:

depression
self-harm
generalised anxiety disorder (GAD)
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
eating disorders.
Substance abuse
Grief
Trauma

The reality is budding adults have the right to live holistic lives.

Therapy gives them a place to process these issues in a healthy way and helps them get back on the right track.

I believe therapy is a powerful and this is why I pour heart and soul into what I do.

You may be thinking of a scene from a movie with a character lying on a couch.

They stare up at the ceiling as they share their life challenges with another character sitting comfortably across the room from them, attentively taking notes.

If that's your idea, then you're not far off. Except for the laying on the couch part, as this is optional.

By explanation, individual one-on-one therapy, often referred to as psychotherapy, involves meeting with a therapist to reduce internal suffering, which may be causing problematic behaviour.

One-on-one therapy can help to break down barriers that interfere with emotional and mental well-being and get you back on track.

As a psychotherapist, I'm trained to assist people with various issues such as stress, depression, anxiety, hostile behaviour and other debilitating feelings.

Psychotherapy is generally long-term and focuses on a broader range of issues if any of the above resonate with where you currently are.

Get in touch if you'd like to discuss how I could help youβ€”looking forward to hearing from you.

It's a big week for mental health, and being a big believer in raising awareness for critical issues in our communities, I won't let it go unnoticed. 😊

So today, we are highlighting World Su***de Prevention Day with the theme 'Creating Hope Through Action'. πŸ’–

According to , the latest su***des statistics showed that in 2018, in the UK and Republic of Ireland, more than 6,800 people died by su***de.

Every death by su***de is a tragedy, but the fact is it's also preventable. πŸ’―

Hope plays a significant part in this; it's like an anchor that keeps us grounded when things get shaky or overwhelming in life.βš“

We can all help 'Create More Hope Through Action' in the simplest ways.

Create a wellbeing plan so you can draw from it on days you're struggling.
Find a hobby that calms you that you can immerse yourself in or
Join a support group that can come alongside you.

Hope is within your grasp, so don't give up hope! πŸ’–

It may come as a surprise to some, but young people struggle emotionally and psychologically too.

Having worked as a teacher for 15 years, I have lots of experience dealing with young people; they often experience difficulties that can feel confusing and isolating.

Today is Youth Mental Health Day πŸŽ‰, and to mark it, I'm sharing my Top 5 ways you can strengthen your child's mental health with you. Here they are 😊 :

1. Listen to them. We often like to speak first or interrupt our kids and young people whilst they speak. Practice listening first and talking second. This will make them feel valued and understood.

2. Allow them plenty of time to play. Letting your kids have ample time for fun will cheer them up and improve their overall mood.

3. Apologise to them when you mess up. As a parent, it's easy to adopt the mindset that you are always right, even when it's not the case. Next time you mess up, swallow your pride and practice saying sorry. As above, this also helps your kids know their value as well as the respect and love you have for them.

4. Explain your no! Often young people interpret no as refusal to be accepted in some way and generally no can infer dismissal, rejection, push back and even dislike. But 'no' is usually said to protect. It's important that our young people know the true meaning when they are told no and they understand that being told no is usually coming from a place of love. Remember, love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres (1 Corinthians 13:7).πŸ₯°

5. Ask them about them. Many young people feel unseen and unheard. Taking some time out to hear how they feel, what they might be thinking, their likes/dislikes is a gateway to discovering more about them as a unique individual. The result is rewarding- they will feel seen and heard.

Which of the 5 do you find the hardest to do and why? Share in the comments below.
