Driven by personal need, we realised there were more people who should know there are options for them
I was 18 when I first felt the twinge of what I now know was a spinal disc pushing into my spinal cord. 10 years on and the problem deteriorated to the point where codeine and tramadol was the way in which I was able to get through physical activity or even just standing up straight for 5 minutes. Even going to the shop for 20 minutes would have me reaching for codeine. And of course, as soon as I had taken the codeine I had the need a few hours later to try and sleep it off having been drowsy. Tramadol, being much stronger I used to want to sleep after taking but over the years I became more used to the effects anyway. It was 2017 when my wife (Amie) suggested I think about cannabis oil. Yeah sounds interesting I said as I waited another four months for my next spinal injection that lasted 2 months less than last time. In 2019 I relented and said okay lets look into it. I knew very little although Amie had been researching for years and tracking the progress of individuals who were taking cannabis oil for a variety of reasons. The effects of the lowest dose 250mg of oil I likened to the effects of having the spinal cortizone injection. It did not take away all the pain, but wow did I feel more comfortable sitting down at work, sitting on the sofa. My normal wriggling of discomfort was marketably reduced. Anyone who suffers with pain will tell you that to reduce the pain in some way, even if not to eradicate it, can be a godsend. I will try the higher strength at some point but I am happy to be where I am. For the first time in a long time I am comfortable.
A unexpected side effect was that I can breath better. I have asthma but sport related really, but I struggled to breathe at night, snoring heavily (Amie will tell you I was horrendous). Now I still snore and at times I am horrendous but I can noticeably breathe better and I sleep so much more soundly. I noticed that I had longer dreams as a result. It was not something I was looking for but I am pleased with that unexpected effect.
So this was my story. It may me think about my family and those that are living in pain. Those that simply didnβt know enough about the oil and the option available to them. It made me realise that my family and I were no different to many of you.
