The Complementary Health industry was definitely not a place I ever thought I would be part of. Office work had always been my career path even though I didn’t particularly enjoy it. I just never thought I had a choice.
That was over ten years ago when I had little or no confidence or self worth. Then through a friend of a friend I came across Reiki and Reflexology. I had always thought they were vaguely interesting but didn’t know a great deal about them. I made an appointment and I think I had a Reflexology treatment first and the following week had Reiki and I was completely amazed at how these treatments made me feel. I felt I had been walking around in a fog for so long, but after these sessions the fog lifted. I continued to have regular treatments and continued to feel the benefit and eventually decided that I wanted to learn more.
My Reiki journey began in 2008 with Reiki 1, Reiki 2 in 2009 and I became a Reiki Master/Teacher in 2010. Last year I offered Reiki 1 training for the first time and I am looking forward to offering more workshops before the end of this year.
I went to Stockport College to study Reflexology in 2009 and qualified with a Level 3 VTC qualifications in Reflexology, Anatomy and Physiology and Health and Safety in 2010. I have also taken a specialised course, Enhancing Fertility and Maternity care with Reflexology.
I became a volunteer Complementary Therapist at Beechwood Cancer Care Centre in August 2012, offering Reiki or Reflexology to the patients and clients there and was honoured to receive the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in 2015 and I continued in this role until April 2018.
I also began private practice in 2011 offering Reiki, Reflexology and an amazing treatment called Daoyin Tao which is an incredibly relaxing therapy that is worked on the acupressure points of the shoulders, neck, face ears and scalp.
I have since gained the AIM Awards Level 3 certificate in Hypnotherapy and Counselling Skills (QCF) in 2015. Hypnotherapy complements my Complementary Therapies and I am able to work in an integrated way, tailoring sessions with clients in the way best suited to their needs empowering them to achieve their goals and to improve their wellbeing. I have worked with several clients to overcome their fear of flying and am always inspired by their courage and determination and the smile on their faces when they send photographs of them at their destination.
Through my work at Beechwood, I have been fortunate to work through the Macmillan Cancer Support Course, supporting people with cancer. It was this course that sparked my interest in counselling and personal development and on from this I have obtained ABC Level 2 Counselling Concepts, Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills and am now in my second year of Level 4 Therapeutic Counselling, balancing attending college, completing assignments, my volunteer counselling placement, alongside my Complementary Therapy work. These are definitely busy times!
I am looking forward in the future to integrating counselling into my private practice however for now I am continuing to offer Reiki, Reflexology, Daoyin Tao and Hypnotherapy, either as stand alone therapies or working with clients with a multi therapy approach, suited to their needs.
Many clients recently are struggling with anxiety or lead very stressful lives and we work together with complementary therapies, strategies and techniques to improve their quality of life, often looking at lifestyle changes if necessary and positive ways to nurture self care, self worth, self belief and self confidence.
If you feel that you are looking for change and would like to work with me then please get in touch. I happily offer a free 30 minute consultation without any obligation, for us to discuss your needs and how we may work together, .
