Congratulations guys, well deserved.
BLUE LIGHT YOUTH CHAMPIONS OF THE YEAR.
A proud and historic evening for Community Rescue Service (CRS) unfolded at the prestigious Blue Light Awards 2026, as dedication to youth development was recognised on a national stage.
The Blue Light Youth Champion of the Year title was jointly awarded to District Commander Ivan Barr and Unit Commander Brenda McAnenny in recognition of the outstanding CRS Youth Development Programme, which they founded in 2015.
What began as a vision to instil discipline, leadership and operational excellence in young people has grown into one of the organisationβs proudest achievements.
The CRS Cadets are not simply a youth group, they are uniformed, ranked members of the organisation. They train to the same professional standards as qualified CRS Search Technicians, embracing the same ethos of commitment, teamwork and operational readiness.
The only distinction is that cadets are not deployed on live search operations.
Through structured training, scenario-based exercises and exposure to real-world expectations, the programme has equipped young people with:
* Strong discipline and personal
accountability
* Leadership and communication
skills
* Confidence under pressure
* A deep understanding of
community service and
operational standards
Many past cadets have progressed with a maturity and resilience beyond their years, crediting the programmeβs high expectations and structured environment for shaping their personal and professional journeys.
Also pictured on the night were Cadet Commander Kyra Devine and Assistant Cadet Commander Noah Molloy-OβDonnell, both shining examples of the leadership and dedication fostered within the programme.
Absent from the photograph, but equally integral to the success of the unit, was Second Assistant Cadet Commander Maison Porter.
This award is not simply a trophy, it is recognition of nearly a decade of unwavering commitment to raising standards, developing future leaders, and investing in young people who proudly wear the CRS uniform.
The 2026 Youth Champion of the Year accolade stands as a testament to vision, perseverance and the belief that when you set high expectations for young people, they rise to meet them.
