🚐 Mobile Cervical Screening Unit is coming to Kirklees!

Kirklees Council’s Public Health Team, with funding from the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance, is bringing a mobile cervical screening service to several local community locations. This free drop-in service makes it easier for women and people with a cervix aged 25–64 to attend cervical screening—especially if visiting a GP is difficult.

No appointment needed – just drop in!

What to expect:

Screening test takes less than 5 minutes

Full appointment around 10 minutes

Private, safe, and comfortable environment

Why it’s important:

🚫 Missed Appointments in February – Please Help Us Help You 🚫
In December, 138 appointments were missed at North Road Suite — either adults not attending or children not being brought. That’s 34.2 hours of clinical time lost, which could have been used to care for other patients.
📢 Patients across the county regularly tell their GP how hard it is to get an appointment. We could see so many more people if everyone cancelled their appointment. Missed appointments take away vital time that could have gone to another patient who needs help.
We understand that emergencies happen. But if you can’t attend, please cancel online or call us on 01924 767101 (Option 2) to leave a message. Or ring our dedicated cancellation line on 01924 767098 and leave a message.
Every missed slot usually means another appointment must be made, adding strain to an already stretched NHS system.
🙏 Thank you for working with us to make sure care is available when it’s needed most.

🚨 Measles Outbreak in London – Is Your Child Protected? 🚨

Health officials have confirmed a rise in measles cases across London, with several local outbreaks reported in recent weeks. Measles is highly contagious and can spread quickly among unvaccinated children and adults.

Measles isn’t just a rash — it can lead to serious complications including ear infections, pneumonia, and inflammation of the brain (encephalitis). Young children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems are especially at risk.

The best protection is the MMR vaccine (Measles, Mumps and Rubella), which is safe, effective, and offered free through the NHS. Two doses provide long-lasting protection.

👉 Is your child fully vaccinated?
👉 Have they received both doses of the MMR vaccine?

If you’re unsure, check your child’s Red Book or contact us to confirm their vaccination status. Catch-up appointments are available.

Let’s work together to protect our families and our community. 💙
