From scrolling on Facebook with a cuppa to making time to take care of your health - how our first mobile cervical unit made a difference to people's days.

By bringing a drop‑in screening unit to 8 community locations, we helped remove some of the biggest barriers people face — juggling work, childcare, travel, or simply finding the time. With female screening nurses on hand, many said they felt reassured, supported and at ease.

For so many, convenience made all the difference.

Debbie from Lindley said:
“I saw it on Facebook in the morning while I was making a cuppa and thought right, I’ll go now. I just didn’t get round to booking.”

Mrs Ahmed from Huddersfield shared:
“I got a text message from my GP telling me about it. It’s difficult finding time and fitting it around work and family. The staff really put me at ease, and it was really quick.”

Others told us they were overdue for screening or had been meaning to book a GP appointment for months — and the drop‑in model gave them the push they needed.

If you’re aged 25–64 and are due or overdue, please contact your GP practice to book your appointment.

Thank you to everyone who attended, shared their story, and helped make this pilot such a success.

And remember, cervical screening can save your life.

Small children aren’t the only ones at risk of swallowing magnets. Many teens and tweens have accidentally swallowed them too.

One common scenario is when they try to create a fake tongue piercing using two magnetic balls and accidentally swallow them.

It happens so easily. But the magnets can attract to each other inside the body, sticking together and tearing holes in your child’s gut. This can cause life-changing injuries.

⚠️Please talk to older children about the dangers of putting magnets in or near their mouths.

WE HAVE BEEN ASKED TO SHARE THE FOLLOWING BY WEST YORKSHIRE FIRE AND RESCUE:

“Danger - Young people seen venturing onto mud & silt at Longwood reservoir”

Several young people have been seen at Longwood Reservoir (Compensation res) last week venturing onto silt and mud banks. Yorkshire water who owns the reservoir site, have stated that the mud and silt banks are very deep. This is a very dangerous activity, as people can become entrapped in the mud and silt, this year West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have rescued people from this site who became trapped after venturing onto the mud. The mud may not be firm; you can sink and can’t get out.

If you see someone in difficulty, please call 999 and ask for Fire and rescue

What to do if you get stuck in mud or sand:

If you start sinking, don’t panic -Try and Walk backwards to retrace your steps to firmer ground.

If stuck

Stop moving.
Shout for help and call 999/112 – ask for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue or Coastguard and give your location.
Make yourself visible by raising arms.

While waiting for help:

Kneel to spread weight.
If that fails, sit down.
If still sinking, lie flat on your back to distribute weight.

If you free yourself after calling for help:

Move to a safe, visible spot and wait for emergency services to confirm you’re safe.
