✨ HOOF ABSCESSES ✨

An abscess is can appear at the end of an infection, it is an accumulation of pus (dead white blood cells), which forms a lump internally or externally. This is usually accompanied by inflammation, which can be extremely painful so demonstrated through lameness.

Abscesses are often caused through injury, weather changes, poor hoof quality and/or care. Abscesses typically cause sudden lameness and it may take days to several weeks to clear, based on infection & the level of aftercare.

HOW DOES THE THERAPLATE HELP?
The TheraPlate is invaluable and extremely effective for drawing abscesses out. By increasing the blood supply, pressure can build up in the abscess to the extent where it can burst (end result). You may notice a black, sticky substance on the TheraPlate’s, this is the abscess having burst.

The TheraPlate’s can draw an abscess out in as little as one session and offer immediate relief.

The likelihood of this happening can be increased if your farrier locates the area of the hoof abscess and is able to take the hoof back to the entry point. Using the plates will then increase the pressure, drawing the abscess out through the hole found.

It is advised to continue to poultice between sessions, keep the area clean and monitor for change.

✨ WHAT WILL MY HORSE DO? ✨

You might want to try the THERAPLATE but be curious as to what your horse will do, how they will react, what a session entails… 🌀

Well, here’s what we DO do - I’m proud to say I’m in it for the animals 100%. I pride on patience, understanding and ensuring your companion leaves the session feeling relaxed, pampered & having just had a positive experience. What I DON’T do is stress your companion out by forcing them to do anything they’re uncertain about. This is not what TheraPlate Lincolnshire is about 🫶🏼

You and your companion will be shown the plates in a calm, stress-free environment, they will be allowed to sniff and walk around the plates until content. Positive reinforcement and encouragement is key! I never force a horse onto the plates, you will find they will always step on themselves and will be rewarded for doing so. Slowly we introduce the plates power being on and progress accordingly 🧡

What you usually find is that if your companion is uncertain, they very quickly learn to love the plates and recognise it as leaving them feeling great 💪🏼🩸🌀
