🧠"I'm too old for any help for my mental health"

👆They're just a couple of things we hear when we're out and about speaking to older adults about mental health.

Have you got a loved one who's struggling and says something similar? Are you an older adult who can relate to those comments?

We've popped some older adults myth busters on this post to help tackle some of our most frequently heard misconceptions!

There are lots of ways we can look after our wellbeing.

Whether it’s a hobby, a catch up with friends or family, listening to music, or spending time with a pet – they’re all great ways of tackling low mood or worry.

At Talking Therapies, we know that exercise is another incredible tool! Getting moving does amazing things for our minds.

The main thing is finding something that works for you – seated, indoors or outdoors, intense or steady – and something that you enjoy.

Our friends over at Sport England can explain the science behind it better than we can – take a look at the video they’ve created for !

“You might be put off by thinking that you are older than most people who are getting support – but that really is not the case.”

Seventy-four-year-old Eileen struggled with feeling nervous on public transport and worried about making phone calls – until she found support with Talking Therapies.

Eileen’s now hoping to help other older adults to recognise when they might need some support and inspire them to take action if they’re struggling this .

🎂 Mental health matters at every age 🎂

We look after our physical health as we age - our minds deserve the same care.

That’s why, this , we’re spotlighting the importance of wellbeing in older adults.

Mental health matters at every age – but research shows that over 65s are less likely to reach out for support.

The theme for this year’s awareness week is ‘taking action’ – either for yourself, for someone else, or for all of us.
