Orange 🍊

How cute is she!? 🙈

Orange is attending sessions for her mobility issues, her owners noticed she was slowing down. After a pain medication trial at the vets they noticed a positive change in her mobility and wanted to do more to maintain comfort in her golden years 💛

Orange is a rescue dog so can be a little unsure of new people but she was so brave! We always take it slow with patients and never do too much in the first sessions that’s out of their comfort zone. Taking it at their pace is so important 💕

If you’ve got a dog that’s a little unsure then don’t be afraid of Physiotherapy if your dogs mobility is compromised, we can help!

Should we be taking the Subcutaneous reflex as just a neurological assessment of our dog’s back or could an over reactive one be linked to underlying tension and pain? Have a read below 👇

🔍 Subcutaneous (Panniculus) Reflex – What Are You Really Seeing?

The subcutaneous (cutaneous trunci) reflex is commonly used in neurological exams—but it’s important to understand what the response actually is.
The subcutaneous (cutaneous trunci) reflex occurs when light stimulation of the skin activates sensory nerves that send signals to the spinal cord, triggering a rapid contraction. The subcutaneous (cutaneous trunci) reflex exists to help the animal rapidly respond to irritation on the skin—like insects, parasites, or anything potentially harmful.

Why vets use it in their assessments:
• To check a reduced or absent reflex
• To assess a clear cut-off point along the spine
(There is a precise way of completing this exam if you have any concerns please contact your vets for an assessment)

💡 Could a heightened or “over-reactive” reflex be associated with:
• Thoracolumbar muscle tightness
• Myofascial restriction
• Local pain or sensitivity
• Protective guarding

The thought process… an increased nociceptive input and sensitisation, lowers the threshold for the reflex and creates a more dramatic response.

👉 In simple terms:
Exaggerated = often pain/sensitivity
Reduced/absent (with a pattern) = think neurological

More research needs to be done to know for definite but it’s always useful to keep an eye on your dogs back movement for this reason.

Holiday Update! ☀️

So I’m currently on holiday in Morocco. One day we were walking through to reception where their was a cat trying to get through the doors (assumed it must be a stray as there’s a lot of stray animals over here 😢), obviously me being me, I let the cat in and since I did so, it’s been sat on this same chair every night 🤣 so obviously I had to say Hello 🤣 which was to the cats disgust clearly as I was interrupting its sleep cycle 🤣

To cut a long story short, this hotel has gone up in my books for letting this cat have a nap every night 🐈‍⬛

Please note I do not have phone signal so please whatsapp or email if you need to me!

See you soon guys!

Did you know… this dog presented with no visible signs of pain to its owner.

Pain in muscles can be so subtle and don’t necessarily show lameness/ limping. Over time, if these weren’t treated, your dog may start to compensate elsewhere, just like we would as humans and that’s when more serious problems progress. If you want to avoid injury and future vet bills then why not bring your dog for an assessment and treatment to make sure they have no underlying muscle pain?

If you want more information then head to my website or drop us a message 😊
