This neurodiversity celebration week I would just like to say a huge thank you to all the neurodivergent people I have had the opportunity to work with and support. You have taught me so much about both my work and myself.
I truly believe that everyone has the right to access support and counselling without prejudice and with compassion which is why I am always working towards making my practice as inclusive as I can 😊

So as I’ve had a cancellation this morning I’m spending some time brainstorming blog ideas and I’m wondering what you would like to hear from a therapist? Is there a topic you would like to know more about? Would you like to know more about me and what I do? All ideas welcome 😁

Did you know that people with ADHD have lower levels of dopamine in their brains? This means that in order to motivate yourself the reward level needs to be higher. Scheduling in regular pre-decided rewards can help you manage tasks quicker but these rewards need to be meaningful to you in order to be effective. What’s your go to reward for a job well done? Picture of me getting my dopamine hit as an example 😊

This morning I am working on creating a poster of how someones body feels when they have certain emotions to help them identify their emotions in difficult situations. I always find that using fidgets helps people to concentrate and get the creative juices flowing. What do you do to help with this process in sessions or daily life? I’d love to know your thoughts 💭 😊

Today I am doing some work around ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). This is a relatively common diagnosis for neurodivergent people and can be due to things like sensory differences and the increased anxiety levels causing gastric problems. This is a fantastic book if someone you know has ARFID and includes worksheets as well as information based on counselling principles to support the work. If ARFID is something you are struggling with and you feel like you would like some support please get in touch.

Pleased to say I have been accepted to be on the COSRT register as a relationship therapist (will officially be listed next week) following the completion of my masters degree. I am also registered with the BACP.

There are several different counselling and psychotherapy registers and if you are looking for a therapist I HIGHLY recommend you ensure they are listed on one to ensure a quality service 😊

Taking cues from the natural world can be massively beneficial for our mental health.

The winter is a time for hibernation and renewal where the natural world prepares for the year to come.

If we use these slower, darker days to travel inward, nurturing ourselves and listening to our bodies we could enter the spring full of renewed energy.

Try it, listen to what your body needs and honour it.

Today is national rainbow baby day. Having a rainbow baby is such a precious thing but with it can come very complex feelings from joy to ongoing and confusing grief. Having a new baby is so exciting but may also remind you of what you haven’t had previously. These are very difficult emotions and can leave you feeling lonely. If you would like some help to navigate these feelings please reach out by message or email and we can discuss how so can support you through this time.
