Going through a pregnancy is no easy feat. Being looked after by fantastic medical professionals can certainly make a massive difference to the journey - here's one example we have received in our inbox:
"Wanted to give well-deserved appreciation to my wonderful midwife of 14 years, Jayne Lee!
"Back when I was 21, about to become a first-time mum and terrified, I was blessed with the most wonderful human as my midwife, and with every pregnancy I have requested her. She’s the absolute definition of kindness. Although it’s rare I will speak about mental health, I need to mention it to truly show how amazing she’s been. I have always struggled with mental health and anxieties, something that I’ve learnt through being a mum of autistic children is very likely sensory overloads and the need for structure, routine, and minimal changes.
"Pregnancies bring lots of changes, very little structure, and babies will not stick to a plan. My anxiety is at its highest during pregnancy. I struggle with the what-ifs, with the numerous new faces in my personal space, and the worst one is needles and medical treatments/intervention. Jayne has been so patient and kind, always making me 100% comfortable, always reassuring me when I would become upset about how “odd I am” for overthinking, feeling like something is going to go wrong, reacting negatively to new faces and treatment. She would always tell me, “Rebecca, you are just you and you’re doing very well, duck.”
"I honestly could not have got through any of my pregnancies with my mental health still intact if it wasn’t for her. Nothing is too much trouble, and the calm that she manages to make me feel is something I can honestly say nobody else has ever managed to do like she does. We do choose to go through pregnancies, but that doesn’t invalidate the effects it has on us mentally and physically, something I have heard from Jayne many times over the years, and it will always stay with me.
"Thank you, Jayne. I don’t think any words could ever truly express how wonderful you are and how much I truly needed you as my midwife. ❤️❤️❤️ Here she is with my oldest two babies and my very last baby! Those famous words—but she’s retiring soon, so I know my limits. I could never do it without her."
Well done, Jayne - your kindness and compassion have clearly made a lasting difference to Rebecca and her children ❤️
