As with all studies there are caveats but some key takeaways are:
‘A straight stay in heat for 5–14 min per heat session vs. < 5 min was suggestively related to a reduced risk.’
‘The most favorable sauna temperature for dementia protection was 80–99 °C.’
‘…the dementia risk of those reporting 9–12 sauna baths per month was less than a half of the risk of those who had sauna baths only 0–4 times per month.’
The study is actually quite interesting and always worth doing your own research!
I definitely don’t have access to a sauna 2-3x pw but doing something that you enjoy when you can, that reduces stress levels can only be a good thing. And being perimenopausal I’m happy to engage in relaxing practices that can support the transition and mitigate the potential impact of changing hormones.
Let’s do more of what we enjoy!
