🤰👶World Prematurity Day 👶🤰

World Prematurity Day (17 November) is a global movement to raise awareness of premature birth and the sometimes devastating impact it can have on families.

Premature birth, defined as birth before 37 weeks of gestation, affects millions of families worldwide each year.

In the UK
Around 90,000 babies are born sick or premature every year in the UK. Each neonatal experience will affect families differently, but we know how important it is to feel connected with people who have a similar journey.

This day highlights the importance of providing proper medical care and support for premature infants, who often face serious health risks, including respiratory problems, infections, and developmental delays.

Organisations, healthcare professionals, and families use World Prematurity Day to share stories, provide education, and advocate for improved neonatal care and research.

Why my association was founded?

The International Association of Infant Massage was officially founded in 1981 to promote infant massage globally as a tool for well-being, relationship-building, and respect. Founded by Vimala McClure, the association quickly grew as professionals and families recognized touch as a universal language.
IAIM has developed into an international network of instructors, trainers, and parents, offering a program that respects cultural differences while maintaining a shared core of values: love, listening, and support.
Today, IAIM is present in over 100 countries and remains dedicated to providing families with tools to strengthen their bonds and create more empathetic, inclusive communities.

Love Grows Through Connection

Love doesn’t begin at birth — it begins with presence, patience, and the moments we choose to connect.

For adoptive parents, infant massage offers a beautiful way to build trust, attachment, and security through nurturing touch. The gentle rhythm of your hands, your voice, and your gaze all help your baby feel safe and loved — creating a foundation of connection that grows stronger with every moment together.

At IAIM, we believe that touch is a universal language — one that speaks of belonging, reassurance, and unconditional love. Whether you’re starting your journey as a new parent through birth or adoption, your loving touch tells your baby, “I’m here, and you are home.”

To our wonderful adoptive parents — what has helped you bond and connect with your little one? Share your story or encouragement below — your words may comfort another family on their journey.

Who is the founder of the IAIM? My professional body I trained with.

The International Association of Infant Massage was inspired by Vimala McClure, who in the 1970s recognized the profound benefits of massage for children and parents. After living in India and observing traditional care practices, she brought this knowledge to the United States, adapting it for families there.
Vimala did not teach just techniques—she introduced an approach centered on respect for the child, loving touch, and parental support. In 1981, she founded IAIM, which has since expanded to over 70 countries, becoming the world’s largest organization dedicated to infant massage.
Her vision continues to inspire instructors and parents worldwide: a universal language of hands, heart, and relationship.

Choosing a certified IAIM instructor means accessing a high-quality, internationally recognized program grounded in science and intercultural awareness. IAIM instructors do not simply teach techniques—they guide parents on a journey of discovery and mutual listening.
Each IAIM course is a safe space where families are welcomed and respected. The instructor helps parents understand that infant massage is first and foremost about relationship, not standardized movements.
Worldwide, IAIM instructors share the same principles: respecting the child, supporting parents, and valuing cultural differences. This ensures that wherever families attend a course, the experience is authentic, consistent, and respectful. Choosing IAIM means prioritizing the real needs of parents and children.
