Sight tests are really important for children because their eyes are still developing, and problems aren’t always obvious.
👓Good vision is essential for learning. A lot of classroom activities—reading, writing, using screens—depend on clear eyesight. If a child has undetected vision issues, it can affect their progress.
👓Regular eye tests can also catch conditions early, such as amblyopia (often called “lazy eye”) or strabismus (squint). These are much easier to treat when picked up at a young age, and early treatment can prevent long-term vision problems.
👓Children don’t always realise their vision isn’t normal—they assume everyone sees the way they do. That means issues can go unnoticed without a proper test.
