How does the Eighth & Eden Luxury medical pedicure differ from a beauty pedicure?

👣 The treatment is provided by a qualified podiatrist! We truly are foot experts!
👣 This is a holistic treatment which is tailored to your specific needs.
👣 The treatment includes a neurovascular assessment. This means we assess the circulation and the nerves in the feet, two factors that are crucial to having great feet!
👣 The treatment is suitable for diabetic patients. Some aspects of the treatment may be changed to suit your specific need. In fact, my areas of special interest includes tissue viability and diabetic feet.
👣 I use a scalpel! The best way to remove hard skin and corns is through sharp debridement with a scalpel. During the treatment hard skin, cracked heels and corns will be treated with a scalpel.
👣 This treatment includes mechanical reduction and shaping of thickened or fungal nails. I can also provide a 5-minute fungal nail test and discuss a suitable treatment protocol for you.

I’ve seen a number of new clients over the last few weeks who would normally have a pedicure and are amazed at the difference a medical pedicure with a podiatrist makes!

So what does a medical pedicure include?
A full assessment of your foot health. This involves checking your pulses and ensuring that you have no neurological deficit in the foot. It’s amazing how different medical conditions and some medications can affect the foot!
It is suitable for diabetics – I am a HCPC (state) registered podiatrist with extensive experience working with high risk diabetic patients .
No nail polish! – I believe that beautiful nails can look even better with no nail polish. Including a regular medical pedicure appointment into your self-care regime will significantly improve the natural appearance of your nails and help to prevent nails becoming thickened or infected with fungus.
We treat the skin! A surgical blade is used to remove hard skin, corns, and treat dry, cracked, heels leaving perfectly smooth skin.

New foot pain? I’m seeing a lot of clients with ‘new’ foot pain that has developed since they started working from home. There are so many reasons for this but often it is the most obvious changes that can result in a new or exacerbated foot condition.

⭐️Footwear!! Often people walk around shoeless or wear unsupportive slippers around the house and this can lead to increased strain on muscle groups and tendons leading to foot pain. My advice is to invest in some comfortable ‘house’ trainers and make sure your arch profile is supported across the day.

⭐️Sitting posture- poor sitting posture can result in poor foot positioning resulting in strain. Ensure that you are able to comfortably put your feet flat against the floor.

⭐️increased activity- increasing your activity level is a brilliant idea and has been a fantastic bonus of working from home. However, if you’re going to start running, increase running distance or take up long distance walking then it’s really important to have the right footwear. It’s also important to ensure that you start up slow and build up any distance over a period of time to avoid injury.

⭐️self care- on average we take 3,000-4,000 steps a day...and probably more when working from home. A good footcate regime to manage nails, hard skin, cracked heels and to keep the skin hidrated is really important and will reduce your risk of developing a foot problem.

Verrucas / Plantar warts 👣

I’ve seen an increase in clients with verrucas over the last few weeks. As we slip into snug winter shoes this can add pressure onto existing verrucas or plantar warts causing discomfort.

Verrucas are areas of flat, rough skin and sometimes have a cluster of black dots in the centre and can appear anywhere on the feet. They are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV).

Is it a verruca? Do the push/squeeze test to find out.

Push - apply direct pressure with your finger on to the area where you suspect you have a verruca, if it hurts then it is most likely a corn (we can remove this for you!).

Squeeze – squeeze the lesion in between your fingers, if this is painful then you probably have a verruca.
