fans Dumfries and Galloway! Whats Going on ?

2025 has been an extraordinary year for the festival. We won two prestigious awards, for our 2024 festival; the Eventit award for the best small festival in Scotland (for the second time!) and the Thistle Award for the Outstanding Cultural Event in the South of Scotland. It was truly wonderful to have such recognition!

However, it is our 2025 festival which will leave us with the most striking memories. As you may remember, the area had torrential rain the night before and when two of us who slept on site got up there were an awful lot of puddles in the park. Then, at 11, we had a thunderstorm and had to pretty much evacuate the site until the threat of lightning strikes had passed.

So what we will take most pride and strength from is the way that our volunteers, stallholders and entertainers were prepared to carry on and the way that so many people were still happy to come out, support us and have a great time. It was a truly heartwarming experience.

Sadly, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to secure funding in time to run the 2026 festival in June. While it might be possible to run it later in the year, our connection to the Scottish Refugee Festival is important to us and we have taken the difficult decision to work towards our next festival running in 2027.

That said we are working on some smaller projects which we hope to be able to put together for 2026 – so watch this space!

ALERT: We have received unconfirmed reports of palm oil washed up on beaches in the region. Palm oil is dangerous to animals if eaten and we urge dog walkers in particular to keep your pets on a short lead if walking on the beach.
Palm oil looks like a solid white or yellowish lump similar to candle wax, often smelling of diesel or rotten fish.
If your animal eats it, contact your vet immediately.

Happy Christmas eve everyone!
Just a small post for now as our household is a little manic with excitement for santa coming tonight 🎅😂

Last night we delivered a cheque to Dumfries and galloway Royal infirmary neonatal unit for £16,500!!! 🚜🚛
Without all the support from everyone none of this would be possible. Raising funds for vital equipment & training for our little nicu warriors! We also dropped off stockings with some goodies for parents and babies who will be in the unit over the festive period 😊

We have a picture with the cheque handover and will update once we receive the picture 🥰

Would like to take this time again to thank you to everyone for their participation, sponsorship & support in anyway they were!

We wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy prosperous new year 🚛🚜🎅🤶

The Amber warning that was in place has been lifted by the Met Office. There is still a Yellow warning in place. Heavy localised downpours of rain are expected all day/night, so we will stay 'Active' and flag any incidents via our map on https://dgvost.dumfriesandgalloway.gov.uk/dgvost. 🌧️ ☂️

There is no mention yet as to whether Dumfries & Galloway Virtual Operations Support Team will kick in as this is an amber alert. Hopefully Dumfries and Galloway Council will let us know!

🚨 Flood Alert issued for Dumfries and Galloway

SEPA has issued a Flood Alert for the region due to heavy rain expected from Saturday through to Sunday evening.

What to be aware of:
• Localised flooding of land and roads
• Possible disruption to travel
• River levels expected to be high on Sunday
• Whitesands in Dumfries is one area where impacts are more likely

This Flood Alert remains in force until further notice.

As always, please take care when you travel and keep an eye on local conditions. We will share updates if the situation changes.
