✨New Dates: Wednesdays: 11th & 25th February and Friday 13th February✨
What is this?!?
I first heard this incredible instrument as part of Bear and Shion’s sound journeys down in Wales and then again at Silence in Sound with Craig and Jacquie. This beautiful bronze instrument was made by Martin Blase and is called a Beluga Waterphone. It’s is played using a violin bow or with various mallets and I’ve had so much fun experimenting with it. It can make a very harrowing, theatrical sound that could have a great place in a horror film soundtrack but like many of the sounds I seek for the yurt, played sensitively, with intention, it forms a beautiful ethereal space in my soundscapes.
Soundscapes at the yurt are not deliberately intended to encourage you fall asleep, although many people do. My hope is to guide you through the deeper, more relaxing brain states but call to you with the changing, fleeting sounds that entice your mind to wonder where the sound came from. This gorgeous Waterphone is one of 3 new instruments at the yurt. I will show the second, custom made one soon and the third will be a while before it will appear as it’s a whole new instrument that I am teaching myself how to play. Soundscapes at the yurt are a blend wonderful handmade instruments which are all sustainably made and come with their own stories. If you are interested I can talk forever about their creators and backgrounds but behind the scenes there is a great deal of personal practice and so the third instrument won’t be in the yurt until I am ready to play for people but I will show it here soon.
I would love to have you at the yurt soon. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
