🎉 Congratulations to Rachel Simpson, who originally joined us on maternity cover as a Training Coordinator. During her time with us, Rachel developed a strong interest in the training and teaching side of the role and quickly showed both enthusiasm and natural ability in this area.

Today, we are delighted to share that Rachel has secured a permanent position with us as a Trainee Trainer, a role that reflects both her passion and commitment to developing others.

Rachel is currently progressing through her teaching qualifications and is working towards becoming a fully qualified GWO Trainer.

💐🥂To celebrate her achievement, Rachel was presented with flowers and a bottle of champagne.

We are proud to support her on this journey and look forward to seeing her continue to grow in her new role.

🔦 Course Spotlight: GWO Advanced Rescue

Rescue in the wind industry isn’t theoretical.
It’s technical. It’s time-critical. And it has to be done right.

At Coast Training, our GWO Advanced Rescue course prepares experienced technicians to respond confidently in high-risk, complex environments — including confined spaces and vertical rescue scenarios.

The images attached capture our delegates:

🔹 Assessing and packaging a casualty for controlled extraction
🔹 Operating within a confined space environment
🔹 Configuring advanced rope and hauling systems
🔹 Working as a coordinated rescue team under pressure

This isn’t basic rescue training.

Advanced Rescue focuses on developing:

✔️ Rescue planning and risk assessment in restricted environments
✔️ Advanced lifting and lowering techniques
✔️ Clear communication and leadership during incidents
✔️ Safe, compliant system setup and equipment checks

We replicate real-world challenges technicians face inside turbines and associated infrastructure — limited access, restricted movement, and dynamic emergency scenarios.

Coast Training Dundee has 3 spaces remaining on our upcoming GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) course, starting week commencing 16th February.
GWO BTT is designed to provide technicians with the foundational technical knowledge and practical skills required to work safely within the wind industry, in line with the latest GWO BTT Standard.
Course Modules Include:
⚙️ Mechanical Module
Introduces mechanical systems commonly found in wind turbines, focusing on safe working practices, use of tools, mechanical components, and fault awareness.
⚡ Electrical Module
Covers basic electrical theory, components, and systems used in wind turbines, with a strong emphasis on electrical safety and hazard awareness.
💧 Hydraulic Module
Provides understanding of hydraulic principles, components, pressure systems, and safe isolation practices relevant to turbine environments.
🔩 Bolt Tightening Module
Focuses on controlled bolt tightening techniques, use of torque and tensioning tools, and the importance of correct procedures to maintain structural integrity.
Successful delegates will gain GWO-certified training that supports progression into turbine-specific training and on-site work.

We had the pleasure of attending the Siemens Gamesa Onshore UK & Ireland Contractor Partnership Day.

We were asked to deliver a presentation on the differences between GWO First Aid and Enhanced First Aid, focusing on what this means in practice for people working in the sector.

The day included us delivering first aid practical demonstrations, open discussions, and great opportunities to connect with others, all with a clear focus on safety and collaboration.

A huge thanks to Siemens Gamesa for hosting such a well-organised event and for inviting us to be part of it.

A big well done to Steve Foley and Rachel Simpson from Coast Training Dundee, who successfully completed GWO Sea Survival this week as part of their ongoing instructor development.

Sea Survival is a vital element of the GWO suite — especially for those working in the renewables and offshore wind sector. From understanding emergency procedures to mastering safe boat transfers, this training builds the competence and confidence needed to operate safely in challenging marine environments.

A huge thank you to Stream Marine Training for hosting us and providing excellent support throughout the course. Partnerships like these help us continue raising industry standards and developing highly capable instructors for the next generation of technicians.
