In Yir Heid Survey
Across Scotland, men continue to experience poorer health and wellbeing outcomes, including higher rates of su***de, drug‑ and alcohol‑related deaths, and significantly shorter life expectancy, particularly in the most deprived communities.
While many of the underlying risks are preventable, we know that social expectations around masculinity can make it harder for men to speak openly about their mental health or to seek help when they need it.
Locally, partners have highlighted a gap in understanding how these issues are affecting men in Dundee, and what practical steps are needed to make support more accessible and responsive.
In Yir Heid is a one-year project bringing much needed focus to men's mental health.
Through collaborative action planning between men living in the city and a wide range of services, the project will shape a new framework for improving support and addressing challenges experienced by men in Dundee.
Over the next 12 months it will gain insight and encourage engagement, make sense of what we find, plan and prioritise action, put that into practice and then review what we are doing to make sure it is having an impact.
But the first step is to fill out the survey before March 23. To do that visit https://www.dundeeprotects.co.uk/men

Today sees the publication of the Joint Inspection of Adult Services in Dundee by Health Improvement Scotland and the Care Inspectorate.

Throughout the report, lived and living experience voices were highlighted as influential, impactful and central to decision making.
We (at DVVA) are proud to support this process.

We have highlighted some key quotes we would like to share, which we feel demonstrate where lived experience voices have been influential:

''Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action were instrumental in operationalising the partnership’s commitment to keeping the voices of people with lived experience central to its commissioning activity. It supported the peer support network and employed peer support workers with a remit to ensure that the voices of people living with a mental illness and their carers were heard.''

''The Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategic Plan was being refreshed using coproduction models led by Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action. Stakeholder groups had contributed to the design of the plan and other aspects of strategic planning.''

''The partnership made good progress in engaging people with a mental illness in its strategic work. The partnership’s strong commitment to collaborative practice resulted in meaningful involvement of people with lived experience in shaping both policy and the development of services. There was evidence that co-production enhanced health and care pathways, including autism pathways. People who use services had been involved in the recruitment processes for staff, for example the approach was used for recruitment of a consultant clinical psychologist to progress pathways to support people with personality disorders. Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action supported the partnership with the collaborative work by involving people who use services and encouraging participation and feedback''

''Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action supported the co-production of the plan and facilitated a well-attended consultation event in April 2025 to capture the views of people with lived/living experience and communities. Feedback from the event and wider consultation activities informed the development of the draft mental health and wellbeing strategic plan. This was to be presented to the integration joint board in April 2026.''

Members of the public are being invited to have their say on the Dundee Integration Joint Board’s (IJB) spending priorities for the year ahead through its budget consultation for 2026/27.

The IJB oversees services delivered by the Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership. These include adult and older people’s community social care services, residential care and care at home, community health services, palliative care, mental health and learning disability services.

The consultation asks people for their feedback on a range of specific options put forward in response to the significant budget gap for the upcoming financial year.

These proposals are being put forward by officers for consultation, and no decisions will be made until the IJB budget meeting at the end of March.
